16 day old baby crys every night unless being fed from about 7-10pm, as though he has bad / trapped wind, despite winding him & getting burps
he goes red in the face and brings knees to chest, sometimes farting (!)
he just looks so sad and uncomfortable, and also his poor dad only sees him crying when hes home from work Sad

does this sound like colic, if so at 16 days would you recommend gripe water etc or is he to young
is this not colic, am I being PFB about it all,

heas otherwise healthy and has gained weight since birth. he is exclusively bf
thanks

It sounds like cluster feeding - very common in young babies. If he's content being fed then I would do that.

See here - sound familiar?

firsttimemum90 · 21/04/2011 10:46

could be cluster feeding as said above, may be a bit colicy, gripe water when baby is a month old, i gave infacol before every feed and worked a treat and can give this from birth, also are you FF or BF? if FF when feedinh check the teat isn'y collapsing as this will make baby gulp more air

Thanks have cracked open the infacol so really hoping it works, I currently have a migrane and am struggling with the crying!!!

Will he stop crying if he's on the breast or does he cry regardless?

sleepdodger · 22/04/2011 01:38

He will stop when on breast (I'm ex bf on demand) but poor thing inconsolable otherwise between evening hrs
after first infacol feed dose at 8pm he slept till 11- that's unheard of... Fingers crossed I'm not still waiting to put him down again for much longer!!

If you can I would just feed him as much as he wants in the evening, you might find he spends 3 hours tanking up and then you get a decent stretch of sleep.

ChessyEvans · 22/04/2011 17:28

My first is now 17 days old and this is exactly what he is doing! It started off in the evening but now happens quite a lot during the day as well. I am also EBF on demand and it's exhausting being the only thing that consoles him! I will try some infacol - am happy to just keep feeding if that's what he needs but as OP said, it's not nice to see him looking uncomfortable so would prefer to rule out sore tummy!

Good luck sleepdodger and hope it continues to improve for you, fingers crossed I'll have similar results! Smile

I have the same with DD2 (20 days) and it was like this with DD1. No one likes to admit that BF babies get colic (got naff all support with DD1 as no one believed me) but they do. I think with me it's related to oversupply and fast let down - you can hear the wee thing gulping and trumping all the time. Sadly, I don't have any magic solutions for you but wanted to offer some support. It really does disappear at 12 weeks. Honest.

Wow infacol does seem to be working some magic, much happier baby. Hope yours has continued to improve sleepdodger!
