Milk donation?

Cosmosis · 18/04/2011 13:51

I have started back at work and so DS has just started at the CMs and is refusing milk when he?s there. I can easily pump 8-10oz per day, which is what I was sending him to the CMs with, but I?m getting most of it back again and my freezer is filling up rapidly.

It seems such a shame to waste it all, but I know I?m too late to register to donate to a hospital as your baby has to be under 6m (DS is 7.5) , but I seem to remember reading about an informal mother to mother donation scheme, does anyone know of it, or have I imagined it?

Depending on where you are in the country and which milk bank is local (tho they dont actually need to be that local) to you you may find they will take you milk anyway. I went to a talk by someone from the Countess of Chester milkbank and I'm sure she said that occasionally they will take milk from mothers of older babies if they are low on stocks, could be worth a call/email to your milkbank to double check?

MoonFaceMamaaaaargh · 19/04/2011 13:08

also www.milkshare.org (hope that works, on phone so can't check Smile )

Ooh even more options, I'll check them out. I think Huddersfield is my nearest milk bank, will see what they say.

hudds was my nearest too but they weren't interested as ds was 5m and they only wanted >6m (this may have changed since). In the end i donated to chester for 7m, they were super helpfull and came all the way to leeds to collect. Smile

Cosmosis · 19/04/2011 17:26

may contact chester then if I get no reply from Hudds. I am in Leeds too :)

Just wanted to say thanks for the tip about trying Chester, I am in the process of signing up with them now, after no response at all from Hudds.
