Hii all,, Today i was making up a bottle, and found somthing moving.. look at it and it was some kind off a bug it was very very tiny.. hardly see it brown colour.. i was mortified.... I mainly breastfeed but making a bottle because i was going out... pls tell me how to go about it... dont know if i should tell us the manufactures name...

Bearing in mind it was a new one brought from tesco???!!!

How awful. And a live one too. All the breast feeding moms are going to love this one. Wink

Anyhow, you should write/phone the company and tell them. They'll likely send you all sorts of free stuff, but they will also/should investigate the plant... they may have a infestation and have to do a recall, or are in the process of announcing a recall but need more people to complain.

Iggly · 14/04/2011 07:50

I'd write to tescos as well! Look up the company website, take a pic if you can. That's disgusting.

theborrower · 14/04/2011 10:41
Shock

Absolutely call and complain, but I would call the formula company rather than Tesco. There should be a helpline number on the tin to call - they need to know if a batch has been contaminated.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 14/04/2011 10:43

yasmin You must have been mortified.

Take photos and ring your local Trading Standards people. Don't let Tesco have the product for testing though, as then you'll have no proof.

GotArt, yes can honestly say that I never did spot any creepy crawlies in my bm Grin

frakyouveryverymuch · 14/04/2011 10:50

Inform Tesco and the manufacturer definitely - it's a public health issue and they will probably want to recall the product and hopefully deal with the issue at the manufacturing plant.

I'd be going to the papers!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 14/04/2011 10:53

Yeah I think I would be too frak, you could ring your local paper or here's the number for the Sun

abbierhodes · 14/04/2011 10:56

Are you absolutely sure it didn't get in after you'd opened it?

JesusMcCheese · 14/04/2011 11:01

Maybe a head-louse fell in as you were preparing it........?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 14/04/2011 11:02

Grin at Jesus, is that what happens in your house?

AlpinePony · 14/04/2011 11:08

I don't really want to start a row - but as someone else said, are you sure the live animal came from a sealed packet which had been untampered with and possible sealed for months on end?

What about the bottle? Kettle?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 14/04/2011 11:12

"I don't really want to start a row" so what you doing on MN then Alpine Grin

frakyouveryverymuch · 14/04/2011 11:13

Surely if OP was actually making up a bottle the bottle would have been sterilised and full of hot water, so the bug wouldn't be live any more?

And if she was putting the formula into one of those little tubs that should have been sterilised as well, so no bug, and wouldn't have been anywhere near the kettle or the bottle as you shouldn't mix the powder until the last possible minute anyway if you're following the guidelines?

Formula powder is very often sold and used quickly. They have a use-by of a max of a year from manufacture IIRC and the one I bought in December is use by November next year so it was on the shelf within weeks, if not days.

AlpinePony · 14/04/2011 11:17

haha JiltedJohns! x

Can someone please arrange an autopsy for the bug so we can discover when and how it died? Anyone got Grissom on speed-dial?

frakyouveryverymuch · 14/04/2011 11:20

Who says the bug's dead? OP says it was moving

partyhats · 14/04/2011 12:21

I really want to know which brand of formula it was. Was it SMA (I use this)?

hocuspontas · 14/04/2011 12:25

Why would anyone go to the papers? Jeez.

If companies know about breaches of H & S they can do something about it.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 14/04/2011 13:57

Did suggest the papers along with reporting it to the H&S so the company would know about it hocus.

Obviously the company needs to know as do the public if it is a problem with the formula.

StealthyKissBeartrayal · 14/04/2011 14:10

Where did you see thuis moving bug? In the bottle after it was made up, or in the newly opened powder?

PaisleyLeaf · 14/04/2011 14:16

It sounds like a weevil, like you can get in flour.

  • unless it was already in the bottle.
PaisleyLeaf · 14/04/2011 14:17

Is the powder in date?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 14/04/2011 14:34

Any update yet yasmin, have you called anybody about it?

yasminluv · 14/04/2011 15:08

Hii guys,, This creature was definitly in the milk powder.. im positive.. i make sure i use sterilised bottle. and bought this at the same day.... powder was in date yes PaisleyLeaf.

OP posts:
SomethingSuper · 14/04/2011 15:12

Fuck, that's awful.

jaggythistle · 14/04/2011 15:15

take photos and keep them. if you contact them through their website they might get you to send it to them and send you vouchers or something. if it's a known issue they might be able to tell from the batch number though.

i have complained about 2 things recently and got replacement products from one and vouchers from the other.

neither as worrying/yucky as a bug in formula though. Shock

yasminluv · 14/04/2011 15:19

I have spoke to the trading standards.. they said will contact me in 5days. and said take it back and get a refund... soo thats the latest... Now im just sticking to bm...
