For all those mothers who nurse their DBs to sleep & worry about it!

DS is nearly 19 weeks and from day one he has dropped off while nursing. He's never been a great sleeper so I didn't discourage it but have worried instead about whether I was setting up a really bad habit - visions of him still needing to nurse to sleep at 6 came to mind. Especially since although he was able to soothe himself to sleep, he would only do so after a BF. Well.... last night he woke at 11.30 and soothed himself to sleep without wanting a feed first! Yippee!!!!! So, if you've been reading the stuff about setting up bad sleep associations, or been nagged at by your HV, then worry not!

(NB This is not intended to be a gloating post - just a reassuring one. I have spent/wasted so many hours worrying about this, and I don't suppose I'm the only one!)

Ds is 2.75 and an amazing sleeper. Was frequently nursed to sleep until 1 year. Don't sweat the small stuff I say.

bobbybob, that is reassuring - ds is 12m and still bfing to sleep as he is the world's crappest sleeper (with a v lazy, softhearted mum who won't CC him ). There's hope yet then...

DD nursed herself to sleep for the first few months of her life, I too stressed with the put them down awake so they learn to fall asleep mantra. We were also cosleeping which is so frowned upon! She's 15 months old now and goes to bed in her own bed in her own room without a breastfeed.

I'm pregnant again and I now think sod it they are babies for such a short period of time, do whatever you want to do with your baby.

Ds slept fine when we stopped breastfeeding at 2.5, and also when we stopped his regular antihistamine medication, he sleeps fine on holiday. Sleep has pleasant connotations for him.
