So I posted this yesterday:

I'm at a bit of a loss! DD2 is EBF and is showing lots of the symptoms of reflux. She is generally content but from about 5pm the screaming begins! She arches, cries and fusses whiloe feeding (this was just when I gave her an expressed bottle but now on the breast too), sticks tongue out all the time, wet burps (when I can get them up), hiccups all the time. Having been not sicky at all, she has vomitted entire feeds in the last few days.

Returned to dr this morning and despite all the symptoms, which now include vinegar fragranced poo, I was told that babies do get reflux but don't have acid! She told me it's colic and sent me away with more colief. I now have nothing for reflux.

To add insult to injury they've told me they can't do immunisations as they have no nurse. Great!!

sounds like reflux to me! could you get in touch with your health visitor? I'm pretty sure they can prescribe gaviscon and in my experience have much more knowledge of babies than Drs.

japhrimel · 06/04/2011 13:45

WTF? They can't just not do the jabs.

Can you go to a different doctor. I'd also suggest contacting your HV.

suso · 06/04/2011 13:59

FFS, that's ridiculous. Can you change doctors? Or go back and ask your Dr what she thinks Infant Gaviscon is for and ask for referral to a paed while you're there?

DaisySteiner · 06/04/2011 14:01

Erm, has she never inserted an NG tube into a baby? You check it's in the right place by testing for stomach acid. I'd consider a different doctor tbh.

Oh ladies, thank you for your replies! Unfortunately, when I had dd1 I was with a worse dr and the PCT reallocated us as we're not in the catchment for any others. Therefore, getting a new GP isn't really an option. I will do my usual ring round though.

HV was useless! Gave me the patient liaison number and fobed me off! Patient liaison just pointed out the inadequacy of the situation to the practice manager!

Ironically, dd is under a paediatrician for a kidney problem. However, 8 weeks in I'm yet to see her! Still waiting for the appointment! When I finally see her I will discuss my concerns re reflux.

Needless to say I'm a little angry today!!
