Is there a breastfeeding while pregnant thread already?

If not would anyone like to join me?

Experienced and first time feeding while pregnant mums welcome. I'm almost 11 weeks with DC2 and am still feeding DS (15 months). We are currently working at night weaning him (although he is incredibly persistent) and he still feeds 3/4/5 time per day, although he is starting to eat more solids.

I don't know anyone in RL who has fed whilst pregnant or tandemed and it would be great to be able to share frustrations etc with others.

So please come and join me, or point me in the direction of the right thread

Hello! Can I join in? I just found out I am expecting DC2, DS is 14 months.

KD0706 · 16/10/2011 21:56

Sounds like it's all going really well penguin and well done to your DH!!

I hope you enjoy the activities you have planned mbj I think it sounds like the best thing to do is to go ahead and get on with life as though you're not hoping for a baby imminently. Then no doubt you'll go into labour when you least expect it. Says me with zero experience of getting remotely near a due date!!

Welcome nannyogg I think you'll have just a slightly smaller gap than me - DD turns 2 12 days after my due date.

Well, in news here we have dropped the morning feed. And to be honest I think she'd probably happily drop the bedtime feed too Sad

I don't know if I'm being selfish in holding into that last feed. But obviously I'm not forcing her to feed. One of my boobs is feeling a little bit lumpy so I tried a bit of switch feeding (!!) tonight and she had two shots at that boob. But I'm lucky if she nurses for as much as two minutes on each side. She's still very awake when I put her down to sleep (bless her, she takes herself off to sleep which a couple of months ago I wouldn't have thought possible - though no doubt she will lose that ability now I've mentioned it out loud!)

I just think a cuddle would do her just as well at night. But I don't want to stop BFing. I'd love for her to still have a bedtime feed when DC 2 comes along.

Anyway. Sorry for that stream of consciousness rant. I'm off to sleep now as DD seems (fingers etc crossed) to be sleeping through the night but waking earlier.

FutureNannyOgg · 16/10/2011 22:10

Thanks KD, I was actually trying to hold out for a 2 year gap (had emcs last time), I wasn't convinced I would fall pregnant very quickly, we properly tried for DS, and we were just seeing what happened this time, I fell pregnant on the only opportunity in 6 weeks, so it's nice to know fate has a sense of humour still. Grin

KD0706 · 17/10/2011 08:41

Yes nannyogg I'd read somewhere that going through a pg makes your body more fertile as it kind of reminds your body how to do it.
That was certainly the case for us. We were at the first stages of fertility investigations when I fell pg with DD and the interim findings had been basically that my ovaries weren't great at making eggs (very layman description there!!). So we weren't trying as such, just being careless because we thought we'd struggle to conceive again, and knew that it wouldn't be the end of the world if I did get pg.

So I know exactly when I conceived, one episode of unprotected sex at what should have been the wrong time of my cycle (albeit my first full cycle since having DD so I couldn't really expect to know cycle length!!)

Hope everybody's doing well this morning. DD slept till 8am so I am delighted today Smile

PenguinArmy · 17/10/2011 09:25

I fell pg on first time having penetrative sex, wrong part of cycle and took the MAP (being first time, the event got carried away) Blush DD is now 19 months.

How many weeks are you KD, you might find once you get to 6 months and milk starts coming back she might feed for longer.

KD0706 · 17/10/2011 12:33

Im just 14 weeks penguin so I'm not sure whether she'll hold out until my colostrum starts coming in. I'm going to keep offering though, and at the end of the day even if she does wean herself, I can reassure myself that despite not reaching the recommended two years, she will have had much longer BFing than the vast majority of babies. And after a challenging start.

I'm generally one for planning though, so this just seeing how it goes, taking it as it comes attitude is very hard for me!

Kveta · 17/10/2011 12:37

hi, can I join? Ds is 2, still feeding every morning, but would happily have more feeds, and am ~7 weeks with DC2 (after early mc in August). Not sure if DS will still be feeding in 8 months time - not if DH has anything to do with it, but I'm not fussed really.

PenguinArmy · 17/10/2011 14:16

it was hard for me when DD stopped but as you say, we can't force these things and as you say we 15 months is still loads more than most.

I will actually stop posting at some point Grin

TheRealMBJ · 17/10/2011 14:46

Welcome kveta

Have you read or heard of Adventures in Tandem nursing?

It is recommended reading for this thread Grin.

Not really, but it is a great book filled with well researched information.

We're still holding on here. No activity Sad EDD tomorrow.

tinky19 · 17/10/2011 20:11

Hello all,
Had an interesting few days. Had really bad BH contractions at work on Thurs and had to hold a warmed up ice pack to my back for 3 hrs (not easy whilst teaching!)
These weren't so bad over the weekend but noticibly worse than usual.
Today however my ds has been very clingy, and not wanting to really leave the sofa, I've let him nurse quite a lot. This seems to be causing more BH/ contraction pains.
Has anyone else experienced this. Is it a sign of anything (I'm 33+1 weeks so still to early for a few weeks yet)
Thanks

Kveta · 17/10/2011 20:30

hiya, no I haven't read that, but fully intend to when I next make it to a LLL meeting!

good luck to those nearer the end! I'm still at the nauseous and sore boob stage :o fun times! will read through the thread over the next few days :)

KD0706 · 17/10/2011 21:04

Hi all.
Hope your bh pass tinky
Is it worth you getting checked out at your maternity hospital? If they're real contractions, they can give you steroids for baby's lungs and pop you on a drip designed to slow down or stop labour. Might be worth it just in case your baby does put in an early appearance. Though I am quite jumpy about that sort of thing given my history (DD born at 31 weeks after I started contracting at 30 weeks).

kveta nice to see you here and congratulations on your pregnancy.

Well, I'm really sad tonight. I've shed a few tears. I think DD's pretty much weaned. At bedtime she sucked from the first side to the count of ten, then the second to the count of five. She seemed to want to stay snuggled in at the boob so I let her, she did a bit of licking etc but then nipped me with her teeth (only in a gentle, explorative way, not malicious. But still not nice for me). So I just popped her up on my shoulder and we had a nice cuddle and I popped her in her cot. She's still rumbling around getting herself comfy but I think just didn't need the feed to settle her.

I'm really gutted.

PenguinArmy · 17/10/2011 21:32

it does get better

MoonFaceMamaaaaargh · 18/10/2011 13:43

Welcome kveta and nanny. Smile

All ok tinky?

How's it going penguin?

Hope you are having edd treats mbj!

Sorry if x post...ment to post this am and phone too slow to re write! Blush

KD0706 · 18/10/2011 14:10

Hi all. Thanks for hugs. I know it's not the end of the world. And if somebody had told me when she was being tube fed in nicu that I would feed her till 17.5 months I would have been delighted. All that expressing in the early days was certainly worth it!

How are you getting on moon ?
happy edd MBJ

Have your contractions/bh stopped tinky ?

TheRealMBJ · 18/10/2011 17:05

Thank you Smile. No news Sad

Hugs KD

Hi tinky. I'd talk to my mw about the BH if you are finding them that uncomfortable, it sounds like they aren't just when speeding either. Might be nothing but best to have a look I'd think.

Had a lovely lunch and walk around the walled garden at Scampston near Scarborough.

40 weeks

KD0706 · 18/10/2011 20:56

Pleased you had a good day MBJ.

DD took about a minute each side tonight. I suspect I may be giving you all a nightly commentary on her length of feed!

birdofthenorth · 18/10/2011 21:25

Hello, can I join too please? Am just 6+2 days of with DC2. DD is 13.5 mo & still feeding twice a day... though going off my milk already I think!

birdofthenorth · 18/10/2011 21:25

Pg not of, silly iPhone!

TheRealMBJ · 18/10/2011 21:33

Hi bird

Congratulations. Smile

tinky19 · 18/10/2011 23:12

Hello, thanks for advice on BH, still getting them and quite painful (contraction pains whilst driving on a1 today - not nice) so think I'll mention it to mw at my app next thurs.
Hope things start to move soon MBJ

pinkx5 · 18/10/2011 23:34

Breastfed DD4 and, when she was 9 months, I found out I was pg with DD5. I continued feeding DD4 until she was a year old (and I was 6months pg). I didn't get any side effects at all but to be honest, having fed all mine, including twins, all until their first birthday, my nipples no longer feel a part of me anyway. In fact, a certain amount of detachment from them means I lament their former perkiness only a little, now and again. Nowadays, they do their job and look rather shrivelled and over-worked but appear infinitely comfortable with their lot. However, DD5 is now 3 months old and I'm now starting to feel quite sorry for my nipples as it gets towards the appearance of the little razor teeth stage....

TheRealMBJ · 19/10/2011 05:52

Morning all.

40+1

KD0706 · 20/10/2011 08:24

Morning everybody.
40+2 MBJ

Nice to see you here bird and pink

I thought I had lost all sensation in my nipples till I got pg and suddenly they had a lot of sensation!!!

Hope your bh calm down tinky

Well, DD fed about ten seconds each side last night. We'll see how long she keeps up the half hearted nursing. She hasn't been sleeping the best recently, but slept for 11 hours in her own cot last night so we all feel refreshed today.

TheRealMBJ · 20/10/2011 15:21

Yy. 40+2 Sad

I was hoping we'd see some action today and birth before midnight as it is my lovely, lovely granny's 77th birthday today. She is quite poorly and it would be such a wonderful present for he if baby decided to be born today.

Nothing yet though Sad

Welcome pink
