Is there a breastfeeding while pregnant thread already?

If not would anyone like to join me?

Experienced and first time feeding while pregnant mums welcome. I'm almost 11 weeks with DC2 and am still feeding DS (15 months). We are currently working at night weaning him (although he is incredibly persistent) and he still feeds 3/4/5 time per day, although he is starting to eat more solids.

I don't know anyone in RL who has fed whilst pregnant or tandemed and it would be great to be able to share frustrations etc with others.

So please come and join me, or point me in the direction of the right thread

Hurrah for colds! Hope that is what it is! Smile

TheRealMBJ · 30/06/2011 20:17

Thanks for all the support. Smile His fever was back up this evening to 38.7 Sad but he seems ok not himself but... not on deaths door either. It's the waiting for him to either get better or to have a convulsion which I can't stand. Makes me mental.

And... I had organised a York meet-up for tomorrow which, I won't be able to go toSad

QueenFee · 01/07/2011 12:52

Real hope your little one has turned the corner now :)

I am much sicker this time round. I have to admit I am struggling with bf during pg. It hurts so much and makes my sickness worse. Any tips?

TheRealMBJ · 06/07/2011 22:34

Hi all, can't believe it's been almost a week since I've checked in on the thread. How is everyone doing?

We're well. DS has recovered from his most recent bout of illness and we have had some happy news on the family. BIL proposed to his girlfriend on Sunday (before crossing the finish line at the Austrian Ironman!). So all quite excited about that.

I'm bloody humongous compared to last time but feeling quite well as am in that 2nd trimester blooming phase Grin. DS is still feeding, he still asks for a feed before getting up at around 4H30-5H00 but, hey-ho. I'm just gonna live with it as it is I think. He is getting better at settling himself and is spending a larger part of the night in his own cot in his own room. Although, I really would miss him if he stopped co-sleeping entirely Blush. I'm still feeding him on demand, pretty much, although I do try to distract or replace with food at times, depending on how I feel.

How is the sickness Queenfee? I did find it easier after the first 10 weeks or so. Personally, I also found keeping well hydrated and having salty snacks while he fed helped (but that was probably just my own personal quirk)

How are you Moon and clarde? And is Contented back from hols yet?

ContentedMaybe · 07/07/2011 20:32

Hello

Glad all is going well, Real. I can't wait for that blooming 2nd trimester, as the 1st is exhausting!

I've not been on holiday yet, not for another couple of weeks, tho I do have the in-laws coming next week, which will be like a mini holiday as they help out so much when they stay - they're wonderful.

Hope your sickness isn't too bad, Queenfee. I feel nauseous pretty much most of the time, tho not actually being sick like I was with DS. I'm also craving fizzy drinks all the time... and salty snacks as you mention, Real. strangely enough, exercise seems to help alleviate the sickness and make me feel more energetic, which is great, as DS is now crawling and so I need as much energy as I can muster to keep up! He's feeding well, which is good, and while I still keep having momentary panics about when to wean him, I think I've decided to just keep going as long as I can / he wants to for the moment.

Hope you're all well.

MoonFaceMamaaaaargh · 08/07/2011 13:47

Will pop in later when time to post properly. Smile

MoonFaceMamaaaaargh · 08/07/2011 19:31

Hiya! Grin

Sorry, dropped the thread for a bit there.

Glad your ds is better mbj. And great news re your bil...take it she said yes? Ironman Shock Also glad you're getting some sleep.

Hope your sickness is easier this time contented, mine was.

I too feel huge suddenly. And think my colostrum might be in...tastes less salty than the weaning milk i'd had, but not sweet like bm Blush and ds's nappies are loose...but maybe that's the soft fruit season taking it's toll! Plus it's a cloudy clear "colour" which isn't how i remember it. Confused Answers on a post card.

TheRealMBJ · 09/07/2011 06:26

Hi Moonface

The ironman: I know! He's a middle child though so needs to prove his Alpha male status Grin especially as it is his younger brother who is married with a pregnant wife and son (or at least that's what I tell DH to stroke his ego GrinGrin)

My milk is also if very low volume and a clear whitish/blue. Doesn't look like mature milk BUT not like colostrum either. Not that I saw my own colostrum last time.

DH is starting to express doubts about tandemming (which, although I'm rather ambivalent about it myself, is making me determined to make it work). He thinks 'it will be too physically draining', he absolutely does not want to accept that it may be evn more draining trying to fend of a wilful toddler why trying to feed a newborn.

MoonFaceMamaaaaargh · 09/07/2011 07:44

lol at your bil mbj! Ironman seems a sign of a mis spent adulthood...not enough time sent chatting and drinking wine imo. Grin

So my milk isn't colostrum...i just didn't expect it to change again untill the colostrum came in. At least it it isn't salty any more! Shock

Your dh is obviously concerned but i personaly have never found bf physically draining, your body just makes milk. But it can be emotionally draining. But as you say, i expect fighting off a toddler would be more taxing than tandem. I'm hoping there might be some bfs with both dc's latched and still and calm at the same time! Though ds rarely achieves that at the moment...wriggle and pinch.

Is your dh seriously suggesting that you start weaning ds now? Surely that's what it would take to be done in time?

TheRealMBJ · 09/07/2011 10:17

Oh no, he hasn't suggested I wean DS. He just hadn't thought about the possibility (and I knew this, cause that is what he is like) so when I gently introduced the topic he was a bit, "Oh, I think it'll be too exhausting for you" etc, etc

I'm also not of the opinion that the manufacture of milk is particulary exhausting either (at least not if kept in enough cake and chocolate Grin) but rather having a newborn is. Luckily (although infuriatingly at times), DH is very much a 'wait and see' kinda guy, and he has plenty of time to get used to the idea now.

Not sure how my mother will take to it though. She'll be coming over for the birth and to help afterwards and although, not against 'extended bf' I think she'll baulk at the idea of tandemming. Not to even begin to think what MIL will have to say about the situation...

MoonFaceMamaaaaargh · 09/07/2011 11:16

Aw, bless your dh mbj. Can't believe it hadn't occured to him! Our families have all been like the spanish inquisition! I've just told them that if ds wants to nurse my body will make enough milk for both babies. They haven't expressed any neg opinions. I'm not sure they would dare!

I'm with you re cake and chocolate! And yes, bf often gets the flak for what is actually the difficulty of life with a newborn.

Dc2 is doing some strange lower pelvis jig today! Still feels "breech" but plenty of time for that yet.

Will your dm watch ds while you labour, and dh be with you? Or other way round? How was your labour with ds?

We're all off to see billy bragg tonight, ds included. Very exciting. Grin

TheRealMBJ · 09/07/2011 11:58

My mum arrived in the UK the morning I went into labour at 38w5d so, although it wasn't planned (we were going to go do some shopping before he came) I had both my mum and DH with me during labour. It was very special.

I hope that she will be here when I go into labour again this time so that DS can stay at home with her while DH and I go to the hospital but these things are unpredicatible, aren't they? If she isn't MIL will have him, although I would prefer for her to come to ours so that DS stays in his own home, she would never do that. (She doesn't think our TV is big enough Grin).

Are you planning on collecting a special 'feeding box' of toys and books for entertainment? I'm thinking about it but have yet to stat looking at what to put in it.

How was your first labour? (And anyone else who would like to share Smile)

HappyHollydays · 10/07/2011 12:53

Hello all, I've come over from the recent "secret breastfeeders" thread (although I don't actually keep it a secret!).

I'm 24 weeks with DC2 and feeding DD who is 2.6.

I'm mainly wondering when my colostrum will come in (dry-nursing at the moment) and how on earth I will cope with tandem feeding - especially at night.

Ok, going back to read the thread now.

TheRealMBJ · 10/07/2011 19:48

Welcome HappyHollyDays when is your EDD? Mine is 18/10 but I'm placing my bets on 10/10 (DS was 8 days early so...)

I have very, very, very little milk, which I keep thinking must be colostrum but then change my mind.

How was Billy Moonface? Just watched 'Never buy the Sun' on his blog. Brilliant Grin

HappyHollydays · 10/07/2011 21:49

My EDD is 28th Oct!

I got about half way through the thread and read about colostrum coming in around 24 weeks for someone so I gave my boob an experimental squeeze. Nothing from the left but 2 tiny spots from the right - one clear and one sort of like orange milk. DD was so happy she had a taste and said it was delicious. I don't think there was enough to get a taste but I was strangely excited at the development!

Sad really isn't it?

MoonFaceMamaaaaargh · 11/07/2011 09:03

Hello!

Great to see you here happyhollydays.

Billy was fantastic mbj! He performed don't buy the sun for the first time ever at the gig. If wrote it during the week and tweeked it at sound check!

I'm getting to be obsessed with colostrum!

Will come back later on computer...phone is taking ages to type now thread is long'

Eachpeach80 · 11/07/2011 19:43

Hello all,

I hope you don't mind me jumping in to see if any of you lot are experiencing this...

I am currently bf ds1 who is 16.5 months and am about 7 weeks pregnant.
With my ds1 I had sore boobs pretty much from the moment I POAS but so far with this one - nothing. I have felt a bit sick and I am quite tired but feeling tired is normal for me!

Has anyone else had sore breasts in first pregnancy but not in subsequent pregnancies? Could it be because I am bf?

TheRealMBJ · 11/07/2011 20:19

Hi each Smile, I had tender breasts with my first pregnancy AND extremely tender nipples in the first trimester of this one. Was a real PITA to feed DS then. So, in a word, no. Sorry Sad

HappyHollydays · 12/07/2011 15:55

moon yes me too! I am googling colours, when it appears etc!

peach I had sore boobs when having DD and couldn't lie on my front for the pain from before I POAS.

This pregnancy I haven't had sore boobs but have been blighted by nipple tenderness which seems to be easing now at 24 weeks .

I was able to sleep on my stomach until fairly recently though this time so that made nighttimes much more restful for me (no waking in agony because I've rolled on a boob!).

TheRealMBJ · 12/07/2011 17:39

Hi all. We're off to a charity fundraiser for Haiti tonight. (DH's jobs involved) and...

I won a fridge!!!!! Grin

It's not technically a competition (MN and Samsung product test) but I get to keep it so it is like winning it!

Very excited Grin

Hope you are all well.

MoonFaceMamaaaaargh · 12/07/2011 18:13

dh's day off tom=computer time for moonface. Smile

jubblicious · 13/07/2011 18:25

Hi everyone, I've just found out I am pregnant again. My DS is 7 months so this is 'slightly' earlier than we had planned!

TheRealMBJ · 13/07/2011 19:08

Welcome jubb (hope you don't mind me calling you that?) How are you feeling?

Things are going well here. DS had very little sleep last night as he refused to conk out until 10pm and was awake at 5am but... ... I transferred him into his cot when we got home at around 11pm... And he slept there without stirring UNTIL this morning Grin.

That coupled with my insane fridge day-dreams has made my day today (even though DS has been in a miserable mood this afternoon due to lack of sleep)

jubblicious · 13/07/2011 20:50

Jubb is fine therealMBJ!

We are doing fine. I'm going to find out how far along we are tomorrow. I'm over the shock of realising that I'm pregnant!

The good thing is that DS has started to sleep better so i'm no longer needing lots and lots and lots of coffee to get me through the day.

I am hoping to be healthier in this pregnancy and east better, though the intense chocolate cravings i have at the moment are not helping! I really don't need MIL to give me another lecture about my weight!

TheRealMBJ · 18/07/2011 12:53

Is anyone still about? I need to moan in a 'safe' environment. Grin

Although I love still feeding DS, it is driving me insane at the moment. Unless I am driving/walking he will not have a daytime nap without a feed but it takes for ever for him to go to sleep. Aaaarrrgggghhh! I am going mental.
