I'm at a bit of a loss! DD2 is EBF and is showing lots of the symptoms of reflux. She is generally content but from about 5pm the screaming begins! She arches, cries and fusses whiloe feeding (this was just when I gave her an expressed bottle but now on the breast too), sticks tongue out all the time, wet burps (when I can get them up), hiccups all the time. Having been not sicky at all, she has vomitted entire feeds in the last few days.

I have had her on colief and infacol. The infacol seems to have stopped working now and burping her is impossible again. The dr gave us gaviscon last week but as she's breast fed it has to be given orally. This was unsuccessful and she just gagged and vomitted it all back up.

She is 8 weeks old today and whilst she has had some symptoms since birth it has got so much worse in the last week. I've cut out caffeine (I'm missing my Dr Pepper) and have started taking acidophilus until I can get some Yakult and eat very little dairy.

Any thoughts?

In the first instance, try feeding her in as much of an upright position as possible and then book another GP appointment. He gave you Gaviscon but it's not getting down so you need further advice.

You could ask the HV to come and watch her feed.

Could it be the teat flow? Try a slower flowing teat and see if it makes a difference. If she's not gulping it in, it may calm her down a bit.

When I try a bottle she won't even accept the teat so we never get to test the flow!

oh okay - thought you meant you have normally given her a expressed bottle.

Tricky one. I would still go back to GP and tell them everything and see if they can suggest something different.

It may be that her refulx valve is just immature and that she'll grow out of it.
Stick with the EBF if you can though as she will more easily absorb and digest the BM than formula Smile.

I'd get back to the doctor. Infacol and colief aren't for reflux

Both of mine screamed in the evenings. i did the baby jig from about 5 pm the same as you, till about half nine /10 when dd slept. From 16 weeks she miraculously decided that 7pm would be a good time to go down for the night and we've had very little screaming since. I have nothing useful to tell you apart from it won't be forever.

I'm using infacol and colief as I thought it was colic. However, the reflux symptoms have taken over. Going back to dr tomorrow but not hopeful as he's rubbish!

I had mixed colic/reflux symptoms with my twins. I found Dentinox Colic Drops helped bring up the wind, though I've never treated for the reflux symptoms as they bothered me more than my babies. It might be worth trying Dentinox?
