How much breastmilk should my 6mo DS need?

My 6mo DS has been exclusively BF up until recently when we started weaning. He is only having one 'meal' of solids each day and still having around 6x BF in every 24 hours. When he was younger we tried a bottle but it gave him terrible tummy ache. We tried again today and he seems fine Grin

I want to start expressing sometimes so that DS can have a bottle from my DP or parents and give me some time out during the day.

However, having only ever BF I don't how much milk he is taking each feed.

How much milk should he be having at each feed / in 24 hours??

I don't want to waste any precious expressed milk and have to throw away what he doesn't drink in the bottle. When DP fed him today he woofed down about 8oz and still seemed unhappy that it was finished. I then put him on the breast but he only fed for a couple of minutes. Maybe he just wanted to finish his meal with a comforting suckle rather than being hungry still Confused

Breastfed babies take around 25oz a day, so leave an oz an hour you're away plus one or two extra. They do tend to wolf down whatevers in the bottle as they can't comfort suck on a bottle and control the flow of milk.
