Thoughts on skipping bottles?

Hi all

I am in the process of cutting out daytime feeds for my baby who is just over 5 months and has been exclusively breastfed up until now. We have tried 2 different bottles and a couple of months ago she was happy with one (NUK) for the odd feed but now rejects it. Anyway, this week I just had to get on with trying to drop a day feed (daddy did it at the weekend) and the only thing I could get her to drink from was a bottle with a spout teat, also from NUK. It's like a free flow spout, very flexible so she kind of chews it, but is gradually getting the hang of a kind of sucking motion!

Now I've had mixed response about this from various people. I kind of thought this would be a good thing as I could skip bottles and therefore not have to worry about weaning her off the bottle later on? However, a couple of people have suggested I persevere with the traditional bottle.

This week, overall has been pretty successful. She started out getting 2oz down her on Saturday and yesterday we managed nearly 6oz, all with the spout, so surely it makes sense to keep going with that and not bother with bottles? It does take a while though and I have to kind of distract her with her baby einstein DVD! But she does take it.

I just wondered what your thoughts were? Is it worth persevering with different bottles and teats? Or should I just let her have her daytime milk feeds with the spout? I'm happy with however she wants it really, although I have never seen a baby have a full milk feed from a spout cup which is why I think I am doubting myself.

Anyway - grateful for any views!

I ditched bottles at around 6 months, my older two had a large anyway up cup for milk, hopefully DS2 will follow suit.

I'd use whatever your lo is happy to take milk from

I went straight from breast to cups with lids (or without lids) and my DD was fine.

ds won't take a bottle and to be honest it seemed like a lot of effort and expense trying to get him to. If she is taking milk somehow I'd carry on with it.

Babies and bottles are very closely associated for a lot of people which is why you may be getting some surprise / disapproval.

Thats great thanks so much.

I don't suppose anyone has any experience of how her nursery might take to this? Presumably they will go along with whatever she does?
