Breastfeeding doll causing outrage...

Possibly an 'In The News' thread...

Comments at the bottom are outrageous (IMO!)

DS breastfed his teddybear when I had DS2... as I'm sure he would have imitated bottle feeding should I have made that choice. Plenty of dolls you can bottle feed, can't see the difference? Oh but then this involves boobies I suppose.

I think it's a fab idea, and long overdue!

Should have said some of the comments are outrageous, have been back and re read and there are some sensible people commenting.

Fab. Think I'll get DD one for her birthday Grin

Closely followed by:

"Stop sexualising children!!! It's very disturbing to see this sort of campaign on our children!!! Playing with dolls shouldn't go this far!!!"

Do you think MN will get involved, what with there 'Let girls be girls' campaign?!

Bluetinkerbell · 30/03/2011 13:26

I love it! my DD 'breastfeeds' her dolls...
I think it's only fair to show children all the different ways of feeding babies...

MigGril · 30/03/2011 14:07

DD does this with her doll's anyway as she see's me feeding DS, I think it's cute and should be encouraged. I get more worried when she pick's up a bottle and starts feeding her doll's actualy. I want her to grow up seeing BF as normal not sexsual.

RJandA · 30/03/2011 15:13

It's really sad that anyone would equate breastfeeding with sexuality. And I think objecting to little girls "growing up too fast" should consider the vast array of baby dolls, mini cribs, prams etc etc that girls (and boys) play with every day - this one isn't any different.

But for $99 I probably won't be buying one!

Best comment:

"It is weird. But its even weirder that us British adults put cow tit juice meant for calves on to our cornflakes"

cardamomginger · 30/03/2011 15:51

great idea! but i think version 2 should also vomit down your back/into your cleavage/into your pants (don't ask - it was horrid) when you least expect it.

I have some great pics of my DD (5) breastfeeding her bunny when I had finished with my "my brest friend" pillow. She was deadly serious.

Don't think I'd shell out 99 dollars, but the principle is fab. I concur that actually when DD (2.11) pretends to give her doll a bottle, I do do a double take - all she knows of feeding babies is breastfeeding as far as what's happened in this house. It just shows how powerful the general cultural mindset in favour of bottles is. On the other hand, she does breastfeed her dolls as well (from her bellybutton - close enough I guess:) ) and I too have some brilliant pictures.
