this sounds a bit mad i suppose, at what age do you stop "rubbing" the wind up? i cant remember at what age i stopped winding my eldest son. my 11 week old has started burping on his own during a feed, but i feel that its too early not to assist him with it. told you it sounded mad!

Hi Tiredemma, my ds is 13wks and he's gone through phases of burping himself around 10wks, and then reverting back to needing ALOT of assistance in the last week or so.. (and going back on his Infacol). As he is my first I thought I'd be doing this for a long time yet...! It would be interesting to hear what other mums say. Thanks for bringing it up.

I believe that rubbing wind up is a bit of a British habit. Continental babies bring up their own. However, I always just sat my babies forward on my knee and gave a couple of pats. If nothing happened I left it. If I thought they were troubled with wind I held them up on my shoulder. I sometimes think mums make trouble for themselves by vigorously winding babies. Sleeping babies are woken when being winded then look to be fed again.
See what happens if you stop doing it - he may manage fine on his own.

karen99, that last sentence that you wrote sounded very apt, considering what the post was about!!

Mears, by the time I got to babies No3&4 I'd given up burping them altogether - I'd forgotten you were supposed to do it, lol! I burped my first baby the most as he was f-fed from about three weeks and had more wind from the bottle.

My mother-in-law used to drive me mad about this (and a lot of other things too!). As soon as she saw the baby she would pickhim up and start vigourously pounding the poor thing on the back. Used to really get up my nose. That and her habot of waking him by shoving a flash camera in his face.

Sorry, you seem to have accidentally pushed one of my "whinge" buttons!
