mastitis/blocked duct

Help! I have an extremely stubborn and vv painful blocked duct that appeared this morning, and all the symptoms of mastitis (chills, aches etc). I've started on the antibiotics that my GP gave me as a reserve last time I had mastitis. But all my efforts to shift the plug seem to be failing.

I've tried: hot compresses, ibuprofen, expressing machine, baby in ridiculous position trying to get his chin in line with blocked duct (tricky as it's level with my armpit!), hand massage in hot bath which seemed to get a lot of gloopy milk out from the duct, like thin spaghetti (sorry TMI). But it's still agonising, and still blocked as far as I can tell. Where do I go from here?! I've gone through this four times with two DCs, but I've never had such a painful time of it.

Really sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I'm sure you've seen this already but here is what Kellymom has to say. Haven't got anymore to offer really apart from maybe you could call a bfing counsellor or one of the helplines to see if they have any more tips.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks JJJ that link was really helpful, I'd seen it before ages ago but not thought to look at it this time round. It confirms I have nasty infective mastitis:( Still feeling rubbish today and breast is very tender, but not quite as agonising as yesterday, so hopefully I'm on an upward course!

Glad you are feeling a bit better today. Hopefully you've got a long enough course of antibiotics and the right ones to knock it on the head once and for all.
