Conflicting advice, what do you think?

I'm 38 weeks, and plan EBF when DS arrives. I mentioned to my MW that I have been leaking quite a bit recently. She said that it was fine and just wear breast pads. HV has just visited as a "hello, I'm your HV we didn't meet at your AN class and I was in the area". We had a short chat and she suggested I start pumping as I'm leaking so much and it would encourage my milk to come quicker when I deliver.

A friend has said she was told to pump to by another HV before she had her DS in December. She was unable to BF due to an op she had a few years ago once he was here.

I'm now confused, if I pump do I keep it? HV didn't go into specifics of what to do. I trust my MW more than the HV, but I want to give myself the best chance to BF sucessfully.

Dunno about the advice you've been given, tbh, but if you decide to pump now you can freeze the BM for a while.
I would ask your MW what she thinks of you pumping pre-natally, if I were you. I don't think you NOT pumping now would have any effect on your ability to establish bf'ing, as it's the same hormone that induces labour that brings your milk in - so unless you're having a planned CS, then the oxytocin will start your milk anyway.

ok - just found this advice for you - do not pump prenatally! your MW is correct, just use the pads.
