Conflicting advice, what do you think?

I'm 38 weeks, and plan EBF when DS arrives. I mentioned to my MW that I have been leaking quite a bit recently. She said that it was fine and just wear breast pads. HV has just visited as a "hello, I'm your HV we didn't meet at your AN class and I was in the area". We had a short chat and she suggested I start pumping as I'm leaking so much and it would encourage my milk to come quicker when I deliver.

A friend has said she was told to pump to by another HV before she had her DS in December. She was unable to BF due to an op she had a few years ago once he was here.

I'm now confused, if I pump do I keep it? HV didn't go into specifics of what to do. I trust my MW more than the HV, but I want to give myself the best chance to BF sucessfully.

Confused

i wouldn't bother and have never heard of that before!

Dunno about the advice you've been given, tbh, but if you decide to pump now you can freeze the BM for a while.
I would ask your MW what she thinks of you pumping pre-natally, if I were you. I don't think you NOT pumping now would have any effect on your ability to establish bf'ing, as it's the same hormone that induces labour that brings your milk in - so unless you're having a planned CS, then the oxytocin will start your milk anyway.

ok - just found this advice for you - do not pump prenatally! your MW is correct, just use the pads.
