If you fell pg while bf...

Can I ask how old you lo was, and how much they were feeding?

We're not ttc, but we are not trying to avoid it either, we figured we would let the next one come in their own time. DS is 7 months and still feeding a lot. I take a test once a month just to check in Grin

I'm just curious really about what kind of time frame other people have experienced.

Have your periods come back? If so, watch out, many women are superfertile after birth... Mine came back two weeks after I night weaned at 10 months, and I was pregnant the next cycle...after doing it once...Blush..and I'm 37. We were expecting it to take months and months...

bunnyfrance · 25/03/2011 10:49

Oh, and he was feeding twice a day when I fell pg

IMissSleep · 25/03/2011 11:16

I BF for 5 months, periods came back 2 weeks after DS birth! Then stopped for 1 month, then came back....

I never trusted it as a form of contraception! Was not ready to be pregnant again!

pinkclouds · 25/03/2011 11:44

My DD was 6 months when I got pg again. I had dropped 2 feeds while on holiday. My period hadn't come back. I was delighted Grin.

FutureNannyOgg · 25/03/2011 12:20

I had a small bleed at about 12 weeks, but nothing since. He feeds 2-3 hourly during the day, and his longest break is 11pm-4am.

I'm not really worried about the contraceptive effect, we decided at 10 weeks when I cancelled my coil fitting appointment that we were happy to have another as soon as, but we aren't desperate to conceive either IYSWIM. I thought I might be pregnant this weekend when I had some cramping and moodiness but no period, but from another thread I was reading on here that might be a warm up to them coming back. We were both a bit disappointed when the test was negative, but equally I have opportunities coming up later this year that I would have to cancel if I was pregnant. I really am happy to let things take their course, but there is a bit of a twitch about not being able to make definite plans for a bit.

DD1 was about 19 mo and was night-weaned but still feeding a lot during the day, I would say more than 7 or 8 times. We had been trying for a few months, I'd got my period back when DD1 was only 9 weeks old.

bunnyfrance · 25/03/2011 12:54

Hmmm, future, you may have to wait until your periods come back good and proper before you know what's going on. Have you tried charting your temperature? That would tell you if you're ovulating and make you feel proactive about it!

Good luck TTCing!

OhHelpOhNo · 25/03/2011 13:04

I got pg when DD was 9m with no period beforehand, we were down to 2 bf a day and night weaned around 7m.

Hope you get the result you want soon

Iggly · 25/03/2011 13:09

DS was 10 months, had one period. I was 29. Feeding 4-5 times a day, 2 at night!

pearlgirl · 25/03/2011 16:21

ds2 was 9 months, feeding at least 4 times a day - sadly i miscarried at 10 weeks but got pregnant again within 4 weeks still feeding 4 or 5 times a day.

PenguinArmy · 25/03/2011 16:30

DD was 11 months and still feeding at least 4 times a day (mostly at night)

my periods returned at 10 weeks. pg was despite was taking the MAP (admittedly not in the first 24 hours).

Am now 11 weeks, so still early days but no side effects here...yet

KirstyJC · 25/03/2011 16:35

I was feeding once a day, occasionally twice, and DS2 was 20 months. (Periods came back at 10 months). This was first month of trying and I was 36 - expected it to take a bit longer!

SummerRain · 25/03/2011 16:49

after dd I got pregnant when she was 9 months without my period coming back and while still breastfeeding. After having ds1 my period came back at 12 months and when he was 21 months we decided to try for another and I got pregnant in the second month... again still breastfeeding.

However after having ds2 my periods didn't return until he was 17 months old.

roomforthree · 25/03/2011 16:50

I conceived dc3 when dc2 was 8 months and still fed on demand, day and night.

TruthSweet · 25/03/2011 17:35

I conceived DD2 when DD1 was 11.5m/o (planned) she was fed on demand in the day so around 6-8 times a day a 4 times a night. Periods back at 9 weeks as DD1 was bottle fed formula/ebm mostly for the 1st 8 weeks before EBF.

DD3 was conceived when I was bfing DD1 (2.10y/o) & DD2 (13m) so feeding upwards of 10 times a day and a couple over night. I got my periods back at 11m after DD2 had a chest infection and was in hospital (didn't feed as much).

WoTmania · 25/03/2011 18:00

DS1 was 8 months and BF on demand. quite frequently and at night. I hadn't had a period but got pg on first ovulation.
DS2 was 11 months BF on demand, frequently and at night. I hadn't had a period and we were using condoms this time but I still got pg with first ovulation.
Does that help Grin?

mischiefmummy · 25/03/2011 18:09

DD1 was five months old. No periods. Had just introduced a bit of pear (god this is 10 years ago before BLW!!) and DP came home with a Friday night tub of Ben & Jerry's. I turned green and we both a bit Shock!! I only ever go off chocolate when pregnant!! Funnily enough I went to see my GP once I realised and she said "ooooh - that happened to me too!!"

duchesse · 25/03/2011 18:14

I got pregnant with DD1 when DS was 12 mo and still breastfed about 4 times a day. My periods had not come back, so I had 36 months (9m + 12m + 9m+ 6m) without periods over the whole DS + DD1 time (they came back at 6 m with DD1, 9 m with DD2 and 12 m with DD3).

SconesForTea · 25/03/2011 20:26

I got pg when DD was 11m, feeding morning and night. Two periods prior to that, my periods came back when she was 9m and still feeding 5 or 6 times a day.

FlipFantasia · 25/03/2011 21:15

My periods came back at 6 months - a few weeks after starting BLW. First cycle was long, but then they settled into a 27 day ish routine.

I got pregnant when DS was 11 months old and feeding anywhere from 2-5 times over 24 hours...and this was after needing IVF to get pregnant with DS in the first place due to issues with my DH's sperm! So I'm a bit of a believer in the whole BFing increasing fertility thing.
