my ds is 13 weeks weighing 13 pounds and was 6.5 at birth. i follow his cues and hes fallen into a 4hourly routine which is fine, the problem is hes only taking 4 feeds a day (bottle feeding on a good day 7oz each feed), he goes 12 hours at night with no feeds but gets very restsless around 5am-8am i try feeding him in this time but he doesn't want to know but will fall straight asleep on the dummy. when he has his bottle he really isn't intrested in it and has an oz every 5 mins then a 5 min break so on. my mum and mum in law both say i should start weaning him early as 'he obv bored with milk' i've been having probs with the fussy feeds for weeks though and think 13 week is to early to introduce baby rice etc, any ideas or reasurence would be great. also how many hours a day should a baby this age be napping, ds only will nap 30mins at a time and can be cranky and over tired if i dont get him back off to sleep

13 weeks is waaaaaaaaaaay too early for solids, please don't.
he isn't "bored" with milk, he just isn't that hungry!

i would try giving him smaller feeds more frequently and just going with it. he kmnows how much he wants.

sleeping through for 12 hours is amazing at this age
he needs nothing but milk at this age
some babies like to feed little and often - nothing wrong with it
a baby can't be bored with milk - your Mum and Mum in law may be bored with the same thing day in day out, but your baby isn;t!

If he's sleeping 12 hours at night, then he probably needs another 3 or so hours sleep in the day.

I agree with the others, maybe he's a little and often feeder. I'd try offering 3-4oz every couple of hours.

i would have thought that he would still be on 5 feeds a day, but he may not be a hungry baby?

my dd is 15wks, she weighs just over 15lb and has 5 feeds a day of 4-5oz each time, i have stressed about it, thinking she isnt getting enough, but she is putting on weight fine and sleeps well, not all night like your little one but gives me two 5 hr stretches at night :)

he wouldnt sleep if he was hungry and as long as he is gaining weight well then he is ok, but yes maybe offer smaller amounts more often?

and i have had the odd person say the same as me, that as dd doesnt take much milk i should offer solids Hmm IGNORE, if your little one seems happy and content, was wet nappies and is gaining weight etc then he will be taking the right amount for him :)

it may be worth experimenting with a different sized teat, maybe he needs a faster/slower flow would be my only other suggestion :)

it sounds like his weight is great, so why worry?
