hello, am slightly worried about my 3 month old. He is combination fed - on about 4 bottles of formula a day and the rest breast fed and seems to be going for days without pooing. He is averaging a 'movement' every 48hours and beforehand will squirm for about an hour clearly uncomfortable then when the explosion finally happens they are a dark greeny colour. Have been advised (by mother-in law) to try brown sugar water but am hesitant to try this..any suggestions...have tried baby massage and bicycle legs which doesnt seem to make much difference.

Not sure about this one, have you called one of the helplines to see if they know?

Is he uncomfortable at all other than that hour before hand? Does he seem to be in pain while pooing?

Last time I rang one it was the National Breastfeeding line and they were great 0300 100 0212.

From what you describe though, I wouldn't be worried about being uncomfortable for an hour unless he is in pain or crying, I'd be more interested in finding out why his poo is green.

To get him to go I would give cooled boiled water.

I agree the colour sounds a worry - maybe take a sample and make an appointment with gp?

My friends baby used to get constipated and she was advised to gently stimulate his bottom with warm water and cotton wool and she swears it has worked!
