Constipation in an EBF 3mo

Sorry if this is a silly question but can an EBF baby get constipation? DD is 3mo and BF is going well. About 2 weeks ago she went down to one poo a day, then in the past week there have been only two dirty nappies (lots of wet ones). I know this is normal in an EBF baby, but DD seems really unsettled and grisly for a day before she does the poo, and much more like her usual self immediately after. They're giant poos too, so it must be getting backed up somewhere in the system.

My instinct says it's constipation -or am I being crazy? If it is, what can I do about it (if anything?)

Happens-friend's DD went 5 days! Have you tried a teaspoon of orange juice?

Is the poo hard or like a normal BF baby's poo? DD1 went for 11 days once. I would avoid giving your DD anything until you've seen a HV or GP to confirm that she is constipated. Have you tried massage, warm baths and bicycle legs?

Please don't give orange juice - not good for a 3 mth baby.

These gaps are normal. Some mumsnet posters have found it seems to help with the grumpiness if they do bicycling exercises with the baby's legs :)

My DD did this too and I posted something similar a couple of months ago.
I questioned her unsettledness with my HV, she said young babies' immature bowels can sometimes go into spasm slightly, and because they don't recognise the feeling of needing to go, can be uncomfortable just before.
My DD used to almost laugh at us when she'd been!

But it was always runny and exploding when it came, so no - not constipation.
She's 5 months now and grew out of it quickly.
