how to do it safely without getting mastitus? i express everymorning -have done since ds was a few weeks old, he's now 15 weeks.

I'm wanting to stop expressing in a morning but last time i tried i got mastitus so i'm scared to try again. dh says i need to stop one day so tomorrow is the day :s

i dont express for a set amount of time -normally only takes 5 mins to get between 3-6oz out (usually around 4)

Any advice? do i just stop completely or cut down? cant donate to a milk bank unfortunately as i dont fit the criteria as i've looked into this.

Hi when I stopped breast feeding I did it by expressing just enough to take the pressure off, rather than draining the breast. Also each day I would try and go longer before I expressed - so after a few days I was expressing at lunch time instead of the morning. I stopped breast feeding and moved completely to formula in two weeks - I physically felt so much better - but guilty that I couldn't breast feed for longer. DS is a happy chap though and didn't notice the difference at all. Good luck.

Thank you, so if i just take the pressure off is that ok? maybe 1/2 oz of the side that was fed from last and 2 oz from the side that hasnt been touched? i'm not planning on dropping any feeds its just the morning expressing is a waste of time as i dont use the milk i get from it,i orgionally did it to increase my milk supply when there was no need :s

Just don't express until very little is coming out and you can reduce the amount you take each day.
