what's wrong with my nipple?

my boob is swelling up just behind the nipple and is excruciating to touch - feeding DS this morning brought tears to my eyes (and not of joy). there's a large white thing on my nipple (about a third of my nip) which is also excruciating. I tried hot compresses after no luck with feeding DS (he kept getting up and running away, or trying to feed from the other side, or 101 other things toddlers find to distract themselves).

I'm at work and scared to google :o and no access to cabbage until later either.

it doesn't feel like mastitis, but not like thrush either, and I've been feeling nauseous and a wee bit feverish too, so did wonder about an infection. obviously nothing deathly serious as I drove to work and am typing now.

(I've currently got one side of my bra undone and am letting myself 'flop' out, so hope I don't have to get up and talk to anyone anytime soon Hmm Confused)

I had somehing similar (although not the white thing, my boob just swelled so much that the nipple disappeared inside) and it was mastitis - get to your doctor asap to get some antibiotics!

The white thing sounds like it might be a milk blister blocking a duct.

If you haven't got a tyemperature it's unlikely to be mastitis yet but blocked ducts can lead to it.
