How much to breastfeed at 8 months?

I have heard people who are bottle feeding say 600ml per day but have no idea how much is going into my ds!

He gets a big feed at bedtime and in the morning, is still have a feed at 3am, and I also offer him the breast before all three naps in the day but he doesn't always take more than a sip.

A bit concerned that he needs more milk than this, whether formula or breast - any ideas? He has not had a bottle or formula so far.

My DS3 is 9 months and for the past month or so he has been having 4 BFs a day. Morning about 7, mid morning 10.30am, mid afternoon 2.30pm and before bed anytime between 6.30 and 8.30pm. If he wants anymore I let him. He has got into this pattern himself.

He is on 3 meals a day.

Four feeds seems about right for us, but he does seem to go without any food or milk for an 11/12 hour stretch at night.

When he had his 4 month review with the health visitor and nursery nurse (at 7 months Hmm) they said as long as he has at least 2 BFs a day that's fine. I didn't think that seemed very much.

ds is 8 months and still feeds a lot at night plus I'd say six times a day - some of these are also no more than sips.

But we are doing baby led weaning and while he puts everything in his mouth he isn't actually consuming much food.

I think you can trust them to take as much as they need at this age unless you have any major concerns about weight, dehydration, illness etc.

If you want to try and up it, have you tried feeding after naps? Ds seems easier to attach when he has just woken up.

You can include dairy in food as part of their milk intake too. My ds is 7.5 months and only has 4 or 5 breastfeeds a day (and three of those are very quick generally) plus a 150ml of formula in the night. He eats well though and I can't force him to have anymore than that.

OP I don't think you have anything to worry about, it sounds like your DS is doing fine.

IIRC DD was on 4 or 3 feeds per 24 hours at that age, and each feed wouldn't have been longer than 10 minutes.
