This was the annual LLL social coffee morning for nursing mothers of children over 4 years old !
It was so nice to discuss the good and bad points about nursing older children. :D

Roll on next year :)

Pagwatch
Do you want to try again.

If that is a genuine offer (hard to tell when written down!) I shall gladly take you up on it.... :) ?

Pagwatch · 10/03/2011 14:11
Grin

Thanks for specifically being polite to me although not quite sure why me specifically. And I don't understand your point but have been polite in the face of your huffing.

But seriously, you are sounding irrationally angry and I don't really understand why you are being so huffy and aggressive..

But I will try and get over myself.

I shall take that as a no then.

Pagwatch · 10/03/2011 14:13

Yes. Seriously. I just can't make the link you are making between breast feeding and sexual awareness. The two are so far apart in my book.

Pagwatch · 10/03/2011 14:14

No. Not a no.

Cross posted.

You seem angry and I am just chatting.

I am interested but if you are getting frustrated it isn't worth it. Iyswim

Tidey · 10/03/2011 14:18

I kind of get what you mean, tw, but I think others do have point about your example not being relevant. What does knowing where babies come from have to do with breastfeeding? I'm pretty sure that when children learn about reproduction, breasts don't come into it.

Udderly · 10/03/2011 14:25

One of these days I will wander onto one of these threads and someone who is anti-BF will have made their point so succinctly that everyone on the thread will have a lightbulb moment and desist immediately. Surely, because otherwise there wouldn't be much point.....

NoWayNoHow · 10/03/2011 14:25

Well, isn't this lively!! Grin

Babieseverywhere · 10/03/2011 14:27

Never did I think my coffee morning post would still be going !

Talking about what the child thinks, in our case I am trandem feeding, I.e. nursing three. I get very touched out at times, believe me if my daughter was ready to wean, I would be very happy.

But she is not ready, when I try to make her wean her behaviour gets worse, she cries more, sleeps less, in short she still needs the comfort and bonding. When I let her have one quick nurse before bedtime she is a happier child all around.

She not only asks to nurse but promises me that she has behaved well at school and can she have some milk, please. It is the best treat ever and tastes of icecream, lemons or strawberries. She is so happy when she nurses, she hums too them and strokes the other one and thanks me for loving her, when she finishes...my heart melts.

Babies - that is lovely. DS2 says he prefers milk to chocolate biscuits Grin which is a BIG complement.

Pagwatch · 10/03/2011 14:30

I have to go.

In case toddlerwrangler returns...

I think we have misunderstanding each others tone and intent and I hope you are not irked. I was not taking the subject seriously and was surprised that you seemed angry quite quickly. I did not intend to irritate you and I was genuinely just chatting and arseing around.
No hard feelings I hope... Smile

Babieseverywhere · 10/03/2011 14:33

Oh, she does know a bit about babies, seeing as sure has two younger siblings and through we discussed how the baby is made, grows, gets out, how daddy helps make the baby etc.

However not once did we mention breasts, as they are pretty redundant in the how we make a baby department.

Pagwatch:

No hard feelings :) Tone is very difficult to gauge in black and white. I just get frustrted with this paticular board as tiny little bits of a post get jumped on an torn appart and what the poter is actually trying to say gets overlooked. Thats my issue in geneal though and shouldnt have afected the way I read and used this thread.

I origiannly tried to engague with you specifically as you seemed to want to discuss my point in general rathe rthen jump on one point like others did. As I have said I have tried to discuss 'extra extended' BF before and got jumped on, and I was dissapointed as it s actually something that fascinates me and so I like to talk about it with people that do it!! Sorry if it came across as I was picking on you constnatly, I really wasn't.

I am always up for chatting and arseing round :)

Pagwatch · 10/03/2011 14:41

Oh that's good Smile

Maybe next time..

Just wanted to put out a bit of support for toddler wrangling who is just trying to express a view

ecobatty · 10/03/2011 18:31

So, if I don't like my breasts touched in a sexual way, and never have, is it OK for me to bf a toddler? Confused

As dh is fond of saying, there's a reason breasts are a secondary sexual characteristic, and the ability to bf is it!

I am a bit sad that I don't remember being bf either, but then I was weaned at 7 months, so not totally surprising. I don't know anyone who remembers being bfed (as far as I know) but the only accounts I've read from people who remember are overwhelmingly positive.

Bfing is a very effective contraceptive for me :( (and I am well-nourished Grin). Took 2 months to conceive DD, 16 to conceive DC2, and that only after nightweaning. Age gap will be just under 3 years, which I thought was around the average when it's used as a contraceptive. Activate, if you're still reading, my understanding is that if your baby is under 6 months and you are ebf and haven't had a period then you can rely on it as a contraceptive, but once your baby is over 6 months then it's possible to ovulate before having a period and thus may be "dangerous" to rely on it as a contraceptive just because your periods haven't returned (this happened to my SIL, believe that it happens in around 5% of subsequent pregnancies overall).

Thank you to all the ebfers who post on here - not only has reading your posts completely changed my views on ebf (well, that and still bfing 2.5 yo DD Wink) but it is also a desperately needed form of support when I don't know any other ebfers in rl :)
