chocolate what does your MW say? Have you got the number of a local bfing counsellor you could call or have you tried one of the helplines. Think you need RL help today.

Kellymom says this on blisters and this on latch.

Hope you get the RL support you need.

Hi chocolate - I struggled first time around with similar story too... can't say I ever really made a huge success of it (struggled for 4 months), but did get loads of help and hints and tips.

Is your nipple flatten in on one particular side? If so, the baby needs to be positioned more on that side (hard to explain but baby's mouth is flattening the nipple, so needs to be more central IYSWIM).
Lengthened like a torpedo? Baby needs to be closer.

Blisters wise - nothing but nothing beats paraffin gauze for allowing the nipple to heal. You need the unmedicated stuff and you'll have to get it from chemists. No nipple cream comes close.

Hope that helps. Good luck with midwife tomorrow.

Sounds like your breast needs to be further in. Kellymom link is great for this. Make sure you stroke baby's top lip with your nipple, then wait for wide open mouth and then bring the baby to your breast.

I'd also advise seeing a bf counsellor - ask your HV, or mw, or call the NCT.

Best of luck, I had this with both of my babies but sorted it out and bf'd happily for ages.

And congrats on thebirth of your DD!

You are all really kind thanks so much. Just had good pain free feed using deep latch ideas from Kellymom and will try the positioning stuff according to the shape of the nipple next time that's exactly what I wanted to understand thanks moog and thanks again all of you am feeling I can face tonight now!

Another thing to try sometimes is what Dr Sears (or askdrsears.com) calls the lower-lip flip. If the lower lip is tucked in, it'll rub painfully but you can gently ease it out. Does your LO have "trout pout" after feeds (this is good)?
