Breastfeeding + Poo

Is it true that breastfed babies can go for days without pooing? My 5 week old DD doesn't poo very regularly - though when she does it's a healthy colour and is generally plentiful.

Is it possible that she's constipated? She sometimes seems in pain during or after a feed, which I think is trapped wind. gripe water seems to be helping.

Any advice welcome please!

Yup. Mine used to go once a week. As long as it's mustardy yellow and smells like butter popcorn nothing to worry about.

I would second that - my 14week DS has pooed once weekly since 3 + 1/2 weeks. It is an epic when he goes - grunting and panting but isn't in pain and not constipated. It is just that breastmilk has so little waste :)

DD1 would poo about once a week.

DD2 however (3 1/2wks) poos about 10 times a day.

Same boobs, different babies!!

Dc1 pooed with every feed, DC2's record was 12 days. Both are perfectly normal.
