Breastfeeding and Deodrant

Odd question, but didn't know who to ask...

I would normally use roll on deodrant [nivea 24hr] and never a spray on.

I am EBF at the moment and not been using deodrant, now that I am getting out and about more I am noticing that I smell quite honky, especially if I've walked to the shops/groups. I am a clean person and shower every day but really feeling embarrassed about it. DD will fuss if I am wearing deo, I have to really wash it off before feeding.

I tried an aluminium free one [bionsen] and this does nothing to reduce the pungency.

I generally wear cotton clothing, usually layers, when I go out.

Can you ladies give me any advice, alternative products or something, don't want to be embarrassed anymore.

I have a brilliant one from boots called... Hang on

Pit Rock (how apt Grin )

It's a natural crystal deodorant, you can get spray or stick, which is aluminium free.

You put it on whilst your skin is still wet just after you get out of shower/bath. It is odourless too but really stops you smelling.

I am the worst for sweating loads but since using this I've been staying fresh all day.

Haven't really got any advice apart from trying another brand of non-perfumed deodorant.

Try Driclor or Perspirex - you put it on overnight then wash off. It basically blocks your sweat glands so you don't sweat. After a couple of nights you will only need to use it once a week.

Dunno what you do during the night when DD wants a feed and you've got it on tho Confused

I second the crystal ones.

I have heard of this before, and someone suggested you/we do smell a bit stronger when BF, something to do with the baby being able to smell/find us.

No idea whether it's true or notGrin

I swear by Mitchums.

Actually I just googled 'body odour breastfeeding' and found loads of similar things - how odd.

thanks for the advice, I might give that pitrock a go.

Pitrok does contain aluminium, it is an alum crystal. It just doesn't contain the same kind of aluminium salts as you get in regular Deos. It's not an antiperspirant though, only a deodorant, same as the Bionsen one which is probably why they aren't working for you.

My DS hated it when I wore a spray when bf so I also used roll ons.

I would try Sure maximum protection, it's a cream one.

I use Ice Guard Roll On deodrant natural crystal, this is the best one I have found its unscented, hypoallergenic, no aluminium zirconium, no aluminium chlorohydrate.

Are you sure that sweat is the problem? Leaking milk can be quite smelly!
