Hi,
Maeve is 2 days old and feeding well. Mik stll not in however the nipple pain is bad. I bf my other 2 but that was 5yrs ago. crying with pain last night but rugby ball hold helped ease> Bought sheilds today in case its bad again this eve.
Do i just pop them over nip and go for it.
Will it help? Will I have to always use them?

They may help, but really should be a short term measure. Better still to try and address the cause of your nipple pain.

Can you get a mw to look at your latch?

Have a look at biological nurturing too for a laid back way to breastfeed.

Have you got lansinoh?

Congrats by the way, gorgeous name. Smile

As your DD is so young, they need sterilising first if you do use them. Yes, you do just pop them over the top, a little milk on the flat part helps make a good seal.

I would say to try and persevere without, but with the security of knowing you have them if you really need them.

I used them for DS1 as he was prem and initially wouldn't feed except from a bottle of ebm. I found he would bf if I used the shields and when he was about 3-4 months old and we were better at bf'ing I tried it without one day, he gave me a Hmm look but got stuck in anyway.

I was very pleased - they have a tendency to ping across the room at awkward moments....

Going for her 24hr check today so will get latch checked? Lanisoh has saved me thus far. I was just in agony last night with the burning! Thanks Crikey.

Good luck! Shields really helped me early on, but I only used them for a few hours at a time to give me a short break. We were already struggling with nipple confusion/latch issues though as DD was tube-fed then bottle-fed at first, so that wasn't an issue for me - in your case they could potentially cause new issues.

Ok emergency backup only! I think they will be like a security blanket so I don't cave into a bottle ... Dp has no experience so hates me struggling!
