Diagnose me!

I am (still ) feeding my 14 month old DC4. For the last month or so after a feed, I am having excruciating breathtaking, stabbing pains in one part of my right breast (lower inside quadrant). They started after a particularly vicious mis-latch, after which I bled for a few days.

He's having two feeds from that side in a 24 hour period, and the pains last for 3 hours afterwards. Unfortunately it's the side that is the milkiest and gets engorged easily and I have had repeated mastitis on that side with the other DC, so I'm not sure just stopping on that side is an option.

I don't think it's thrush as it's just that side, the nipple is a little cracked but not peeling or pink, DC4 has a clear mouth. I am trying to get him to latch properly but he does feel he knows better

So what could it be?

Does sound like thrush to me... when I had thrush I felt the pains after feeds, and DD never had a very bad mouth. If I was you I would get down the GPs for the tablets and take a probiotic from today. Won't do any harm, and might be an easy fix. HTH

I have shoved some caneston cream on for now. I won't feed again tonight.

Bugger. I haven't been to the GP as I went down to only 1 feed from that side and had a few relatively painless feeds. Just fed him on that side though and now have blood on the breast pad and feel raw.

Any ideas? Trauma or thrush?

Thrush won't make you bleed, but it will prevent cracks from healing. i'd see the GP tomorrow tbh.

I've been to the breastfeeding clinic. Given that the area that has the stabbing pain is where DC4's chin is... combined with the one side only pain, bleeding nipple, his violent sucking and my crappy positioning... I have a provisional diagnosis of vasospasm. With a sore nipple.

We came up with some ideas of what to do next.
