Terrible wind 2 hours after feeding

Our baby is just five days old and bf. He was a very reluctant feeder at first, but is now taking some volume and winding okay afterwards.

The problem is that about two hours after finishing he seems to get terrible gut pain for at least two hours, sometimes three. Is this normal? A phase? We're trying all the usual physical moves to shift it (i.e. patting back while sitting forward on lap, over knees, walking up and down while patting fairly vigorously). He's cried himself hoarse and we can't seem to find a way to ease it.

I was also worried that he was gulping air in while on the breast as perhaps his latch wasn't right so got a breast pump, and for the last three feeds have used that, but have got the same result.

Any thoughts very gratefully received.

Quite common I feel. Have you tried the Tiger In The Tree hold, that can help sometimes.

Also how often are you feeding? I would expect at 5 days old that a baby would feed every 2 hours - frequent feeding at this age.

Get someone irl to check your latch - wind is often worse with bottles so pumping is not a good "solution".

Will see if I can explain Tiger In The Tree:

Baby facing down, head to left legs to right.
Your right arm goes between legs so your hand is on their cheast.
Left arm goes from their head down, to their adomen.

Babies arms go either side of your left arm.
Thus you have baby face down in a cradle, with their head supported by the bend in your left arm.
You can then pat with your right hand, or just apply pressure to their tummy. You can rock them.

google Tiger In The Tree to see if you can find a picture.
