Donating breastmilk

Seeing the other thread on donating formula made me think. I know you can donate breast milk but has anyone actually done it or would you consider it?

My neighbour's milk never dried up after she weaned her kids (she eventually had to have surgery!) but she donated her milk to the local neo natal ward for a couple of years. This was in the 70s though, so I don't know if they'd accept it now. I think I would donate it in her circumstances but I'm not sure I would otherwise. I'd be quite paranoid about what I was eating etc. more so than for my own child. I would hate to think I made someones elses baby react. Yes, I know it sounds daft.

Someone on my antenatal club (on another site) is doing it. She had a link - I'll rake it out post it...

Thanks Suzi - an interesting site. I'd think I'd give it a go if I lived nearer to a bank. I'm not sure they'd want to travel out to the sticks just to collect my milk. Only ds thinks it's that good.
