Is this the return of menstruation?
Am (just) 40, 1st baby, EBF round the clock, co-sleep from 4am til getting up at 6.30am, have had a bit of light spotting over the last 10 weeks, but the actual lochia lasted 3.5 weeks, WTF with the bleeding now?

Is it a period?
Or return of the lochia because I am so so so so tired?
Or WTF?
:(

And can I use a Mooncup? I hate hate hate STs.

Oh yeah, and is this going to affect my supply? Baby is 11 weeks on Sunday.
He is quite fussy at the moment, windy, possetting, crying and I am quite worried that he will really kick off if he can't get enough milk.

KellyMom says:
'Menstruation or ovulation can result in a temporary drop in milk supply. You might also notice cyclical dips in milk supply before your period returns, as your body begins the return to fertility. Hormonal changes also cause milk supply to decrease during pregnancy.'

Thanks for any help...

Oh Miffster. YOu sound utterly knackered.

First of all, yes a mooncup is fine.

I think really you should see your doctor 3 1/2 weeks of lochia sounds normal, return of periods at 11 weeks with intensive EBF is unusual but possible. The spotting doesn't sound right, if I were you I'd want to be sure it's just an early return to periods. Have you had any pain or smellyness since the lochia stopped?

HettyAmaretti · 24/02/2011 15:41

Oh x posts.

No it probably wont effect your supply as long as you keep on demand feeding it'll keep up. My DC were fussy at ovulation and the start of my period but always seemed to be getting enough milk. IIRC it can slightly alter the taste of the milk.

Thanks for the response Hetty...Spotting is literally just a few spots of bright red/pink, usually on days when I am hitting a wall of exhaustion...no pain, no smelliness. The bleeding today does seem like a period - no clots, just red blood. No cramping either.

Am def not pregnant because not had sex since I was pregnant.

MIL has taken baby out for a walk so am going to bed for an hour, thus will check thread again when I get up in a bit and thanks for the help.

Mmm. I hit the wall of exhaustion many times between the end of my lochia and start of my periods. 18 month age gap, EBF and two very bad sleepers. It was utter hell but I never had any spotting.

The spotting just doesn't sound right. But, yes, it it looks like a period and behaves like a period it probably is. Still maybe best to speak to your GP.

Best ask the GP about the spotting - and get checked for anaemia! Maybe you don't need to be so knackered?

[Waves] at Miffster - I remember you from the December thread that I totally lost touch with. Blush
