Dropping feeds. Ow.

My 10mo DD seems to be finally getting the hang of solids (though knowing her she will probably go off them again next week!!)

As a result she is dropping feeds, plus only taking one side a feed. Today for example she fed 6am, 9.30am, 3.30pm and 7pm. I am amazed at this as only a few weeks ago she was having about ten feeds in a 24 hour period.

Anyway to get to the point, because each boob is only being fed from twice a day my boobs really hurt. I know I can hand express for relief, but I'm wondering whether I should do some 'proper' expressing so I don't get something like blocked ducts.

Also, I want to keep feeding for as long as possible, so not sure if I should express to keep up supply?

Thanks in advance for any advice

I dont think u need to express to keep up supply as ur dc is still regularly feeding and getting what they need. if it helps express a little to relive pressure :)

Basically, I think the adage is that your breasts will make as much as is taken out of them - so if you express, you'll continue to make more than your baby is taking. I would express a little just so you can remain comfortable, but no more - and your DD will regulate your supply fine herself, so don't worry about not having enough.
