With regards to nipple shields, do your nipples have to actually fit the shield or does it not matter if there is a smallish gap between the end of the shield and the nipple IYFWIM?

I didn't think it mattered as your nipple elongates in babies mouth (so presumed this would be the case in the shield), but maybe someone who actually has used them can set me straight.

yes your right nipple elongates in mouth still so fills the nipple shield once baby starts to suck

Cool, thought that was the case, I'll tell my friend.

Thanks for that!!! Grin

Ditto what websticks said. And if she has the avent ones, that are slightly figure of eight shaped (the whole thing, not the nipple bit) tell her to put them on at an angle, so if your boob is a clock the shield would be pointing to 2 and 8. The the baby has a little gap for it's nose and chin. If I remember rightly the pic on the packaging has them pointing straight up and down, which doesn't work so well.

I bought smaller ones which 'fit' better. Agony when feeding. Space is better.

Yup, the space is essential.
