any ideas what is this - blocked duct ?

morning all hope someone can help,

i have woken up this morning with a v large painful boob with a red patch where the lump is. despite feedind DD 3 times in night and now trying to pump/massage to get rid of the lump it doesnt seem to be going. feeding from this side was v painful yesterday - does it sound like a blocked duct to you? DD is 8.5mo btw

It could be - or possibly mastitis, so if you start to feel unwell in yourself you should consider that.

I find the best way to clear blocked ducts is to feed the baby with their jaw towards the problem area. This often means acrobatics but should be more fun than difficult with an 8 month old!

Other suggestions people often make include massaging the duct towards the nipple during a feed, and combing towards the nipple with a wide tooth comb in the shower.

You can take some paracetamol or ibuprofen if it's very sore.
