How often does your toddler feed?

Just wondering, really. DS is 15 months, I intend to keep feeding for a while longer, and he shows no interest in stopping any time soon. But a lot of the toddler-feeding mums I know tend to be down to one maybe two feeds a day.

Just wondered if I was the only one still feeding a lot, really?

At that age, I think 4-5 times a day? She's just turned 2 and feeds 2-3 times a day.

mawbroon · 10/02/2011 18:23

hmm, at that age probably around 10-12 times a day, but I wasn't counting.

Never could understand how other mums managed to just do morning and night, ds1 would have fed all day (and night) if I'd let him!!

EauRouge · 10/02/2011 18:46

I never counted but DD was certainly on more than 1 or 2 feeds a day at that age. She's on around 5 or 6 (at a guess) now and she's 2.4 yo.

BaronessBomburst · 10/02/2011 18:59

Oh, I've been wondering this too. DS will be 1 next week and people keep telling me to cut down and that he should be drinking out a cup. He can - just doesn't seem to want to, unless it's bath water.......

And he's had total meltdown today and refuses to eat anything so has had about 10 feeds.

crikeybadger · 10/02/2011 19:08

15 months here too.
He feeds in the morning and at bedtime, very occasionaly in the afternoon too.
Would be very happy to do more, he just doesn't want it.

You been away SirBoob? Was only thinking t'other day hadn't seen you around for a few months. Smile

DS is almost 15 months and still a bit of a milk monster, despite having a very hearty appetite for solids too. Don't really count, but he feeds several times a day most days, as well as during the night.

I've gone back to work two days a week, and on those days he manages perfectly happily without (used to send expressed milk with him but he never wanted it). He does have a long feed as soon as he sees me again, though I think that's a comfort/reassurance thing.

I'm happy to carry on too, though if he decides that he no longer requires my services after nightfall that'd be grand Grin.

Thanks ladies :) Crickey, I have no internet at the mo :( Am at a friends at the moment.

Nice to be reassured.

If I am at work then I get away with 2 feeds (morning and night)

Weekends - deffo more but am doing don't offer/don't refuse to try to get her to stop feeding (hahahaah!)

Honeydragon · 10/02/2011 20:10

Boobs

Doris is of and on like a yoyo, definitely not jusy morning and evening Grin

however I wonder whether they are being entirely straight?

When some people harp on about me stopping I'll say pah its only really morning /evenings now to shut them up. Doris mostly wants feeding at home where its snuggly, and only out if shes feeling poorly. So no one notices how many feeds she's on.

Most people know I'm still bf but a few are a little weird about it and I cannot be bothered with them interfering commenting Smile

MummyBerryJuice · 10/02/2011 20:19

I think Honey has a point. DS will only feed around 3x during the day when we are out and about but if we are having a morning/afternoon at home he asks a lot more frequently.

(He does, however, feed almost constantly at night- but that is a totally different story)

He's 14months btw.

feeling that pain MummyBerryJuice, feeling that pain Grin

AngelDog · 10/02/2011 20:56

I'd missed your cheerful presence too, SirBoob :)

DS usually feeds 4 or 5 x a day and maybe once a night at 13 months, although he's currently 10 days into a nursing strike so only feeds about 3 times, when he's sleepy.

I offer though as he's yet to ask really - he never has. The plan was to stop offering the feeds he stopped wanting.

mrspear · 10/02/2011 20:58

Thank you to mumsnet. I am feeling so much more normal. My DS, 15 months, still feeds 5-7 feeds a day - i am fed up with the rolling eyes, my mum is the worst. How am i suppose to stop? I managed to stop at night by CC after being pushed.

YankNCock · 10/02/2011 21:07

At 15 months, with a lot of effort, we got down to 1 feed a day. But I went in the hospital for 5 days and didn't feed him, and when I came out we were back to 3-4 a day.

He's 17.5 months now and it is 4-5 times a day. I'd like to get back down to 1-2 a day, but because I'm not working at all and with him all the time I'm finding it harder to say no to him!

jaggythistle · 10/02/2011 21:08

my DS is 16 months old too and has 2-3 feeds a day normally. it depends on what hours i am working.

i also feed him at night, he sleeps through most of the time when well though.

however, the last 3 months have been molar teething hell, very glad of magic boobs. the last 3 weeks he has been poorly and off his food (2 bugs one after the other), also glad of bf. he had nothing but bm on at least one day. the doctor said we'd done a good job of keeping him hydrated Grin can't wait till he's better, he's never had more than a cold before. :(

he doesn't ask for milk much, just if he's cuddled in all sleepy for a nap.

purcellfan · 11/02/2011 07:50

It's good to read that other toddlers have lots of feeds. Ds is nearly 19 months and still has 2-5 feeds in the day (depends if I'm at work or not and if he's ill/tired etc) and not always but often at least one at night! I've just been away for a few nights and wondered whether he'd still want milk when I came back but the minute I got home he was feeding!

Not sure how long we'll carry on but it has been great when he's been ill so we'll see.

FrozenNorthPole · 11/02/2011 10:14

Interesting to read - DD2 just turned a year old on Monday. On days when she's at nursery I feed her in the morning and immediately when we come home (so about 9 hours between feeds). But she will then feed on and off all evening and all night. I love having a surefire way to calm her down or make her feel better when she's teething or off colour. I still express milk once during the day at work (DD1 normally has that in the evening - usually about 8oz) which is a good thing as at weekends DD2 feeds lots more mainly because, I think, I'm just around and it reminds her that she can have it.
