Breast milk supply - Relactation

I don't know what you lot feel about this, but would like your opinions/ideas.

It's been at least 5yrs after I last BF DD and, as expected, I'm no longer producing BM.
I have been thinking about trying to get my supply up and going again as I'd really like to donate BM.

What has inspired me to forge ahead with this is, my SIL works as a senior neonatal ward sister and has saddened me with tales of babies being very ill/premature. I always think that if only those LO's had some BM, then they'd have a fighting chance and may be in better health.

Already started on fenugreek seeds, but am wondering if you good ladies would have ideas to help me on this.

Have you contacted a milk bank? I have just started donating and mine says your baby needs to be under 6months when you start (though can continue after). There may of course be exceptions or maybe different banks have different rules? But its probably best to check with them first before relactating.

this is the uk milk bank website in case you havent already seen it.

Thanks for the link TittyBojangles.

Unfortunately I had both a blood and plasma transfusion in early Jan 2007 (due to a severe renal infection), so I guess I may have to give up on donating BM Sad.

:( Is there something else you could do to help? Fund-raising or volunteering (I know they use volunteers to drive round collecting the milk). :)

you'd be like a milman, tho I'm pretty sure they won't provided you with a milk float Grin

aarrrrgghh, milkman

ChilledChick2 · 08/02/2011 19:10

I don't drive but I could do a milk float race and collect baby clothes (sleepsuits etc) for the neonatal unit SIL works at Grin.

That would be great fun
