Breastfeeding Peer Counsellors

Hey,

Any Breastfeeding Peer Counsellors out there that want to share ideas and experience? New website aimed at helping women and babies and raising the profile of breastfeeding peer support in the UK as a viable way to prevent women experiencing breastfeeding problems because of various barriers they face.

TIA
FBaggins ;)

Sorry Gaelic, should have replied to your point too about the 'peer counselling' thing...

Peer counselling is quite an old thing - its been around for ages. People with disabilities benefit greatly from peer counselling, as do children with special needs and those with behaviour problems in school for example. Alcoholics benefit from peer counsellors too. Its not about giving advice as such - its more about enabling someone else to meet their own needs and goals by offering an objective and informative ear. Peer counsellors have relevant knowledge, and more importantly, know where the help is. And not insignificantly, they have been through it themselves.

I cannot really change the name although thanks to the pointers here I have streamlined the homepage. Perhaps I should write something about it somewhere though...

(And yes the mums I help know I am a peer counsellor - we always tell them. I also work alongside an IBCLC who deals with the complex issues - a great learning experience! - and a HV too and they know who they are. I'd like to think we are quite transparent about this.)

Oh dear, this really sounds like I'm picking on you and I'm not really Smile, it's just something that bothers me a lot. I just came across another of your threads here and it shows there really is confusion. Have replied on the other thread so as not to cross threads. I really really am not picking on you personally, only the issue at hand.
