Just when things seem to be going well...

my DS changes the rules! He's now almost 10 weeks and is feeding less and less. He is still gaining weight well though.

However, the last 2 days, he takes the boob for 2 mins and then screams. Nothing can make him re-attach. He then cries for ages and eventually sleeps for a few mins. He then wakes, refuses a feed again and smiles at his toys for a while. Today he fed for 10mins (less than normal) at 6:30am, 10mins at 10:00am, 2mins at 1:00pm, 4:00pm and 6:30pm. he was much the same yesterday. His temperature isn't raised.

Should I worry? I really doen't think he's getting enough. Could he be getting dehydrated? He hasn't been sleeping a lot and has dreadful shadows - is he overtired? My mum thinks he's teething - could it be this? I'm going to try and get to the breastfeeding support group tomorrow...

Hiya, they do get quicker at feeding but if you are still concerned see your HV or GP

Agree with BIL. Ds used to take over an hour and now we have it down to about 5 mins each side.

Sounds like a good idea to go to the support group. Good luck

Not only do they get quicker, but your breasts get more efficient and quicker at making it. Sounds to me like you're both doing really well.

Thanks guys - as usual, you are probably right! The bf counsellor at the support group and the HV thought that it was unlikely he was getting enough when only feeding for a few mins 6 times a day. However, we have just weighed him and he's up 9.5 oz so I think he's probably getting enough!

Hi suzi2, like everyone else I also use to worry whenever feeding habits changed. Then one day someone told me (on MN!) that the only thing you can be certain of is that habits etc. are always going to change (or words to that effect!). As soon as I excepted that, life has got less stressful. They do keep changing whether it's feeding, sleeping etc. Try not to worry and have confidence in yourself and your boobs!!
