ds2 is 11 months old next week.

he's always been BF, but started sleeping through in last few weeks and not having night feeds now. he feeds about 4 or 5 times a day. on 3 very solid meals.

anyway, I've never been away from him. i start back at work end of the month, 2 days a week. 3 of those days a month will also include evenings, so the longest ds2 will be away from me is from 8am until midnightish.

so far, i've been concerning myself with ds2 - trying to get him to drink from a cup, go to sleep without being fed to sleep etc. i'm starting to see the light (he takes some from a cup, self settling now) and i know that if he still refuses milk for those two days, he will still be fine and dandy and will probably just make up for it on the days he is with me.

but now i'm thinking, will this affect my supply?

if i go away for a night when he is 15 months old (planning on weekend away with dh), will that affect my supply? will i need to express? at this stage, am i worrying unecessarily? thanks for reading

The night away should be fine IMO.

He may want to feed in the night again after you've been at work which would help your supply. If you're able to feed in the morning before you leave, I think it's likely you'll be fine.

I went back to work one day a week when DS was 11 m.o. and he was originally missing 5 feeds over a 10 hour period. I wasn't able to express for the first month or so. I didn't have any problems with supply, nor leaking.

thanks for posting angeldog.

i'm guessing he'll want to feed in the night again. i'll definitely feed in the morning on my two work days (they aren't consecutive days either). did your ds feed in the night on your working day (more than normal)?

tbh i can't be faffed with expressing, not now. i'm more than happy when i go back for him to drink cows milk on my working days and be bf on the 5 days i'm at home. that's how i'd like it to work.

If they're not consecutive days, I would imagine it'll be less of a problem.

To my surprise, DS didn't feed more than usual in the night (even though we co-sleep). He did take a bigger volume of milk at the bedtime feed though (his nappy would be saturated by the time I went to bed!)

But he's funny - he'd be eating tea when I got home and he often wouldn't want to bf then, or would only want one side, which made me rather unbalanced with one normal breast and one Jordan-style one from a day without feeding. Grin
