DD2 is 5 days old and has been struggling with bad wind at many feeds, often in the night. I can see she is so uncomfortable and it takes her ages to "burp" it up.

Any fresh ideas to help her? Is there a different feeding position I could try? Any good techniques for burping?

My let down does seem to be very fast, occasionally she is covered in milk and drowning as she can't swallow it quick enough. Is this causing the wind problems.

Just been for her 5 day check and blood test, we are in Spain, she has already regained her birth weight so all good!!!!

It is more than likely your fast let down is not helping with the wind issue - it will settle down, I used to drown my DDs regularly in milk. have a look at kellymom for some advice.

congratulations :) have a google of the Tiger In The Tree hold which we found invaluable for getting wind out of DS as a baby. BAsically carrying her tummy-down.

Thanks so much for your quick responses.

Kellymom was really interesting, it is exactly what our problem is.

It is amazing how quickly you forget what to do. DD1 is only 20 months and I fed her for 11months, until she gave it up.

Thanks Heroshew, I had forgotten about the tiger in the tree hold too. I really must have baby brain!!

I find that all the rubbing and patting you think you're supposed to be doing often just prolongs the frustration. My 8wk DS responds best to just being sat bolt uprigh, with his head supported and tilted slightly back. The wind eventually works itself up and everyone is much calmer.

Only today was I watching DH with DD1 in the local swimming pool from the upstairs gallery, patting and rubbing away at DD2's little 9 day old back after I'd been BFing her, when a woman who was stood behind me leant forward and whispered - "Breast fed babies don't get wind" AngryAngryAngry

Tiger in the tree - genius. That is something I will definately be trying later at the next feed! It rings a faint bell in the very back dusty corner of my brain - but it never occured to me to try it!
DD2 was lying in the moses basket last night after a 1am feed and brought up what looked like atleast half of it after I thought I had winded and winded and winded her! Sooooo frustrating!

Islandbaby
will try your bolt upright technique too!
