BF baby with cold

9 month old DS has a stinking awful cold (again!), struggling to latch, feed, breathe, you know the picture. Sad

Up til now, I have continued to just BF him through colds, but I end up engorged, which says to me he isn't managing to get enough, even if I increas the frequency.

I am a dab hand at expressing, so I can express and bottle feed quite easily for him if it is easier for him to feed from a bottle. I just wondered what the MN collective wisdom is on whether breast or bottle is easier for a baby with a cold. I know what Kellymom says, but I think she'd always say to BF rather than give a bottle under just about any circumstances, so I wanted a less extreme view, if that makes sense.

Have you tried saline drops and a nasal aspirator. That should clear enough to feed well. DS will probably be well miffed and scream the place down but at least his mouth will be open wide ready to latch well.Wink
I'm so used to dd just feeding through now, but I do end up with lovelyHmm snot trails from boob to nose.

Yes. Doesn't really seem to be helping with this one. LOL at another trails, lots of those here!

I can't see the harm in giving him a bottle if it's easier for him Confused Or it might be easier to give in a cup or beaker so he doesn't have to latch?

DS calls them booby slugs.Grin

Bloody phone, predictive text - 'another' should have said snot!

He's currently asleep, latched on, so will sit here for a while. Think its mostly comfort sucking, but he seems to have decreased the pressure a bit.
