7 day old ds3 refusing left boob....

DS3 has a tongue tie, am waiting for the lady to get in touch with me about it. He is feeding lots, and by day 5 had lost 7oz from his birthweight. My current main problem (apart from lack of sleep as he's feeding for 14/16 hrs in every 24) is the fact that while he will happily feed for 40 minutes to an hour and a half on the right side, I can barely get him to feed for more than 2 minutes on the left.

He fusses and cries when I put him on the left (but not on the right), He getsfrustrated and starts pinching my boob because let down takes a lot longer on the left, and the let down isn't as ouchy on my left side as it is on the right. My supply on that side is now a lot less than on the right.

What do I do to sort this out?

Have you looked at the info on kellymom about slow letdown? Might be worth a shot?

Ta for link, had a look. Am already using feeding cues, relaxing before feed, having a drink of water ready etc, but the info on there seems to be aimed more at slow let own in both breasts, not just one. Confused at slow let down as I've always had very fast let down an oversupply issues with my other 3 dc's!

have you tried latching on the good boob and then switching when let down occurs. sorry if it's already in link and hope TT gets sorted soon.

I'm sure your boobs are fab :)

Have you tried a different hold, DS was a right boob refuser for ages, but the rugby ball hold used to con him into thinking it was the left one!

DS had tongue tie and was a right boob refuser. We succesfully used the the rugby ball hold on that side to improve latch. After a while I was able to go back to the 'standard' position.
I remember midwife saying it was because I am right handed so my co-ordination/control was not as good when using my left hand during right feeding IYSWIM. That made a lot of sense to me. With DD I have no difficulties so maybe I'm now more ambidextrous now!?!

Grin Have just come back to this thread - and am currently holding ds3 rugby ball stle on left!! Not fooling him though! And I know there's milk there right now, it's dribbling out of his mouth, as he's not sucking. Humpf!

What alittle pickle!-It's good you know you've got good supply there now though!
Maybe it'll get better when/if his tongue tie is snipped? I know I found BF much easier once that happened. Before I felt I had to almost hold him onto my boob to maintain latch.
