Milk allergy?

Have any of you mums had any experience with babies with formula allergies?

I recently (2 weeks ago) switched my 8 week old son onto formula milk (aptimil comfort)and he has developed a rash all over his face, he has had terrible trapped wind, and keeps getting constipated. His stools smell foul, really bad, like he is unwell. As well as these symptoms his eyes are quite puffy and he keeps trying to scratch them, his breathing also sounds very wheezy. I am really quite concerned and i am taking him to the doctors tomorrow.

Has anyone else had these kinds of experiences? was it a milk allergy or something else?

poor ds Sad. Yes, it could be. DD has a severe cows' milk allergy. her symptoms have variously included sebhorraic dermatitis, eczema, red eyes, very snotty and congested, wind, pain when eating, d&v, and constipation. she didn't have puffiness and wheeziness. your ds is very little so you don't want to be faffing around with this. if gp doesn't offer a compelling alternative explanation and treatment that results in a cure, press for a referral to a paediatrician. good luck!

thank you for your response, I ended up taking him to the hospital last night to get them to check his breathing, they said it is being caused by mucus in his nose and that his chest is clear (thank God!) next stop: doctors!

what a worry for you. have you tried saline drops in his nose? softens the gunk and makes it easier for them to snort out. good luck. x

Hi Naomi
afraid to say does sound like it. My DS is 8 months old and still trying to find a formula to suit him, the first reaction we saw was violent projectile vomiting. The second formula we tried gave him hives. Very scary. From 8 weeks he had an itchy red face and itchy eyes which he couldn't leave alone. This lasted until I cut dairy and eggs out of my diet totally. Now it's all healed. Make sure you get him referred and tested as soon as possible, we also had three months of evening colic, which totally disappeared when I cut dairy. Good luck getting it sorted

how long did it take you to get him diagnosed? every time i take him to the doctor she seems to not take me seriously and just tells me to change the formula. I wish i had never stopped breast feeding him! i feel awful about it.
