avent bottle exploding

Jayfer · 30/01/2011 08:43

Was getting my DS his morning bottle and I put the water in the bottle, then the powder and shook it. There is a small circle on the bottom of the bottle which exploded and hot milk went everywhere. I've got blisters starting on my fingers from it.
It was hot water from the kettle which I've done before with no problems at all. Its not an old bottle as my DS is almost 9months and I BF for first few months.

Anyone else had this happen?

I once had a Mothercare bottle explode. I took the whole set back and got a full refund. Complain!

Bertina · 30/01/2011 16:28

the water was too hot and/or you had closed the bottle too tightly

alfiemama · 30/01/2011 16:58

I agree with Bertina. I would say wait 30 mins as per the guidelines as it has caused pressure in your bottle.

StealthPolarBear · 30/01/2011 17:01

Shock are you both OK? (other than the blisters!)

cardamomginger · 30/01/2011 17:03

I always take the cap off after filling the bottle and just swill it around a bit. When the hissing stops then the pressure is OK and you can put the cap back on and shake as much as you want. You OK?

alfiemama · 30/01/2011 17:19

sorry yes, are you ok?

Seona1973 · 30/01/2011 18:55

its the bottom that exploded though, not milk coming out the top - that is not normal! Take them back/contact avent about them

Thanks for your replies. We are both ok, thankfully. Luckily I'd left DS sitting with his toys in the living room as the hot milk went all over the floor (cleaning up milk at 6.45am joyous!). It could have been horrid. My fingers are ok just a little blister and a fairly sore red patch on a couple of fingers.
I'll ring avent tomorrow and see what they say. Slightly concerned about the rest of the bottles and have been inspecting each one carefully.
