Losing my hair!

Lynzjam · 28/01/2011 12:28

DD is almost 5 months and is exclusively BF. Over the past few weeks I have started to lose all the hair I gained in pregnancy. It's so annoying as I have long hair.

So the shower flooded this morning even though I try to prevent most of my hair going down.

Anyone have any ideas how I can prevent this happening again besides getting a short mop chop? Really want to keep my hair and fed up pulling what looks like a dead eat out the plug hole!

This happens to many women post pregnancy, whether they are bfing or not.

As you say, it's the hair you did not lose during pregnancy which is now coming out. I know how annoying it is but it should stop and go back to normal after a few weeks.

Don't worry. It's perfectly normal to have hairloss after having a baby. Nothing to do with bf-ing as far as I know. Basically your normal cycle of hair growth and loss slows right down while you're pg. So lots of women notice having thick lustrous locks while pg. Then all that hair that would normally have been shed but wasn't shed during the 9months of pg, comes out afterwards. You won't end up bald. You'll just have a lot of hair coming out for a while! See your GP if you think it's more than that though.

Thanks guys, will I just put up with flooding shower just now? Or is there some way I can stop the hairs going down? Maybe I should ask this question on a plumbing forum Smile

Happened to me too. I grew lovely thick hair while pregnant and when DD was 3 months it all started to fall out. I even ended up with a bit of a receding hairline at one side! Luckily it only lasted a few months, I didn't end up bald (as I had feared) and it's since grown back to what it was before I became pg.
Apparently your hair doesn't fall out while you are pg and after the birth all the hair you should have lost comes out.

It's a pain! Keep finding hairs in DD's nappy and wound round her fingers after she grabs my hair.

I have fine hair but lots of it! Hope it stops soon!

Been going on for about 6 weeks for me now! Everything is covered in hair, ds's cot, nappies, I'm hoovering it up Grin

mawbroon · 28/01/2011 14:38

It happened to me to a certain extent with ds1, but with ds2 who is now 11months, it was much, much worse. I had to wear my hair in a flat style, any body in it at all and you could see my scalp.

I went to the GP who did a load of bloods to rule out any other underlying cause. They all came back normal, so I left it at that.

This was probably 4 months or so ago IIRC, and now I have lots of short hairs which are noticable in my hairline, and presumably they are all over, which seems to be my hair thickening up again and now it's pretty much back to normal.

an HV at my bf group did try to claim that it would happen later or last longer or something because of bf hormones, i kind of assumed she was havering.
have never asked her where she got it from.

do i win for finding a hair not just in DS's nappy but coming out of his bum Shock

it was just after he started crawling a bit i think.
