Startle reflex when feeding.

I'm not sure that it technically is the startle reflex but I think it is!

When I'm breastfeeding my baby she sometimes flings her arms up and goes stiff. She especially does this when feeding on the right side. In fact she's only done it on the left side once. She went through a few days of doing it at nearly every feed before Christmas then stopped completely, then a couple of weeks ago did it once or twice again and now hasn't done it since.

Is it normal? Anyone any ideas why she does it?

Thanks

Is it when she's dozing off on the breast?

Have you tried calling one of the helplines notea?

How old is she? Is she too old to swaddle? It worked for me, DD always fed much more calmly when swaddled.

Don't know what it is, but I used to swaddle DS's arms with a muslin when he was little to stop him flailing them around.
