Milk supply regulating

Hi - can someone tell me about what happens when your milk supply regulates? I am bfing my 4.5 week old son & have noticed that the last few days he is feeding less often, although I do seem to be producing more milk. Is that what happens when your supply regulates - ie he gets more so needs it less frequently? I am only feeding him when he wants it so want to be sure he is getting enough... How often do feeds generally go to at this stage? TIA :)

I found about 4.5 weeks - 6 weeks my ds didnt feed as much as he did in the previous weeks. My boobs didnt feel full or anything so i'm guessing they had just got use to how much milk he needed, he also must of been more efficent at getting it. Now he's 6 weeks he's going through a growth spurt and my boobs are feeling full between feeds and he's feeding more so i'm guessing in a few days they'll feel normal again and he'll calm down as my milk regulates.

Your breastmilk is very clever the composition of it changes over time to adapt to your babys need so do not worry. babies also become very effeciant on the breast and get what they want quicker. pinkyp is also right my daughter on occasions had sessions where she seemed to want more milk and it was due to growth spurt all will be well.
