how did you stop night feeds?

dd is now 13 months and most bad nights wakes for a feed every other hour. I am knackered.

a couple of months ago she had a demanding phase as well and we used "pick-up put-down" successfully and had only one night feed for a while...but now it has crept back...

she takes formula during the day in nursery, but bf evenings and mornings and during weekends.

Are you co-sleeping or in the same room? It took 2 attempts for me to night-wean my co-sleeping DD, I don't think she was ready at 15 months (not saying that your DD isn't ready, they're all different) but tried again a couple of months later and it only took 2 or 3 nights for her to stop asking. I just told her that booby was asleep, offered her some water and gave her a cuddle instead.

A lot of threads about night-weaning BF babies have mentioned Dr Jay Gordon but I didn't read much about his methods- might be worth a look though.

A word of warning though, she's been night-weaned for 9 months now and still wakes up 2 or 3 times a night! I mistakenly thought she would sleep through once the night feeds stopped Hmm

no not co-sleeping (well the last hour of the night she's in our bed) and she sleeps with her brother in a separate bedroom.

ok, maybe we just have to try again. my ds was (still is) such a good sleeper from early on, I was quite spoilt really.

I completely sympathise - my 16 month old dc2 still has night feeds, the cheeky monkey

if you get any answers let me know! x

My husband was my answer to stopping night feeds in my 8month old. He did all the night wakings for a couple of weeks and my DS sleeps a lot better now. We made up a bed downstairs and wet the dvd player up in that room so he just sat dozing and watching dvd's. My ds soon seemed to realise that there wasn't much point in waking every hour if there were no boobs on offer.

thanks for all the suggestions. I talked to dh and he will do the "night shift" this weekend.
I like the "boobies are asleep" idea :)
