Wanting a drink during a feed

DD(17 mo) and I are both ill. She has croup, I have some awful painful throat and ear thing. She hasn't eaten for three days but is breastfeeding. We had cut down to twice a day but obviously I'm prepared to feed whenever she wants at the moment. Anyway, during a feed just now (after which I'm hoping we'll both get some sleep) she came off and asked for water. Drank a few swigs then asked for milk again. Just wondering why the bm doesn't quench her thirst now?

It might do,she'll be more efficent now so maybe she got to the thicker milk and got thirsty half way through? We can have a drink b4 our meals but sometimes we'll get thirsty midway through. This is just a guess though!

Or maybe she's just being a typical toddler, asking for one thing, then another, then going back to the first?

They do it with toys all the time.

DD has been know to eat a biscuit during a bf (obv she unlatches first Wink). She has also sometimes had a big gulpy bf and then asked for a cup of water, I've never thought it was anything too sinister, more that bf is sometimes more of an emotional/comfort thing for her rather than just quenching thirst. She is just 2yrs.

Hope you and DD feel better soon.

Yes, I suppose it is very typical of how she normally behaves. Certainly eats food in random order and goes back to foods she's rejected earlier. Just overthinking because she's ill and because we're not used to feeding this frequently anymore. Thanks.
