My DD started on full fat milk when she was 11 and a half months old. She is fine.

mamaloco · 19/01/2011 12:17

Actually, I feel silly with you. I was going to ask the same question. DD2 is on 3 FF and 3 meals. do I have to mix? I don't remember doing it with DD1.

Another vote for 12 mnths (ish) here Smile

Both my DDs were around 12 months when I started them on full fat cows milk. They love it and it's much cheaper than formula too :)

BertieBotts · 19/01/2011 12:21

They can go onto cow's milk at 12 months - they still need milk until they are 5 or so I think (unless they refuse it earlier).

You don't have to mix it but if they refuse cow's milk it might help them to get used to the taste of it :)

Full fat cows milk is fine from 12 months. No need at all for formula after that.

If you're worried about how much solids she's taking you can always give a suitable vitamin supplement.

thanks for your quick replies!(mamaloco, come feel silly with me Wink) she was on pepti milk when i stopped breast feeding as she couldnt stomach anything else. so was cautious introducing her to cows milk but shes been fine, no problems at all. just worried that she would be missing something if i stopped formula! these adverts dont help telling you about formula for toddlers to - yrs! just got a bit confused if they still needed somesort of formula along side? x

Mmmm. Formula adverts are best not heeded TBH. They're trying to sell their product after all...

BertieBotts · 19/01/2011 12:37

Yeah the adverts are silly, you don't need it after 1 year - the toddler milks and growing up milks are a bit of a con really :)

mamaloco · 19/01/2011 13:00

Yes but you would BF till 2 yo so is going with FF better than cow's milk? Confused
BTW I am not worried about anything I have a great eater, I would guess she has enough vits from her food.

wigglesrock · 19/01/2011 13:10

I ff both babies, I started giving them full fat cows milk from about 11/12 months, whenever the formula ran out near their 1st birthday!!. I didn't mix formula, just stopped using it.

BertieBotts · 19/01/2011 13:11

Because there are ingredients in breast milk which aren't in formula. The only things extra in formula over cow's milk, can be got from a toddler's diet (and possibly vitamin drops).
