Clicking noise when feeding?

DD is 4 weeks old. When feeding she, more often than not makes a 'clicking' noise. It sounds like the seal is being broken on each suck. I spoke to HV and she advised on positioning which has helped a little but we always seem to have to unlatch and relatch several times before we are 'click free'.

It took her just over 3 weeks to return to birth weight. She feeds regularly night and day, between 1-3 hrly and has frequent wet and soiled nappies.

Does anyone have any advice about the 'clicking' noise and how to stop it or stop her breaking the seal or should i just stop being concerned about it?

Also, how would I know if she had a tongue tie?

Thanks

There is a how to check for tongue tie here though if you think your daughter has tongue tie ask your HV for a referral to the local TT clinic so it can be verified/corrected.

Clicking can be indicative of TT, a high arched palate (which can go hand in hand with TT) or a bubble palate.

Though usually the most common reason for clicking is poor latch - is there a bfing support group local to you or could your HV refer you to a breastfeeding counsellor?

Went to the support group last week and plan to go weekly. The LC's will be there this week so was going to ask them, thanks for link and info.

My DD clicked when I fed her. I tried the rugby ball hold which helped, but as she got bigger that wasn't really feasible.
Eventually after persevering (sp?) for a while it got to the point where she would click for a bit and then re-position herself.

I would try and see a BFing counsellor. Keep with it though, it will all fall into place soon Smile

One of mine clicked very loudly all the time, both were tongue-tied. Definitely check that because however much you relatch or learn latching techniques, babies with tongue-tie always struggle with that. Having said that, my TT'd first breastfed for 11 months with the TT (I didn't realise) and clicked and had poor latch but was huge and really healthy, so it's not a disaster by any means.
